    Hey all,

    Scenario:
I have multiple pages [scenes] set up; plans elevations, sections all ready to export to Layout. I realise I want to add a dimension to one particular elevation but don't want it shown in the other pages [scenes]. So i add a layer and place the dimension needed on that layer.

    Problem:
Now when I view each page, that layer is set to active in all pages so I have to go through each scene and toggle that layer off, update that scene and move on the the next.. pain in the %^&@!#@!!!!

    Solution:
    ??? ANy ideas???

I'm hoping that in future SU has more control over layers specif to a page. Would be hard, LayOut does it!!!

      Hi Andrew,

Jim has a plugin that adds a layer which is hidden on all scenes by default:

Thanks Gai, that will work nicely for now.... 👍

I'm interested to hear if this is something others see a need for....? I feel it is imperative that Layers have more control in the future by default rather than replying on external 'ruby scripters'. [not that I don't appreciate them!!!!!]

        Cheers,

I've had the same experience. All scenes set up, then last minute addition to one scene which cascades into all the rest where I don't want it.

I'll put in my vote for what Gaieus and TIG have said. I'm doing a lot of animation with models that have lots of layers (probably not the best practice, but I only just learned about using outliner to organize things). I had lots of problems similar to yours until I discovered Jim's make hidden layer script. It was a life saver.

However, it would be wonderful to have a script that sets a layer to hidden in all pages, for those times that you forget to make the layer hidden to begin with.

            Have fun...

            Dik

it would be great, if there was a way to select several scenes and then apply changes to these, like hiding a specific layer, change the time of the day or turn off edges...

don't know what the best workflow for that would be though.

                [Edit]
perhaps it is sensible, if you right-click on one of the scene options (like "layer visibility") and choose update for selected scenes. and all selected scenes will be affected by the changes that have been applied to this specific attribute (layer visibility) since these scenes have been highlighted.
that means that if scenes have different layer visibilities, but I want one layer to be switched off in 7 scenes, I select these 7 scenes, switch off the layer in question and the right-click on the "layer visibility" option in the scenes-window to choose "update for selected scenes"

As Gaieus says... Jim's script lets you make a new layer that is NOT visible on any scenes/pages. You need to switch it on in the desire scene/page(s) and 'update' that/those scene/page(s) to suit...
