Yeah they could serve it up on Google Warehouse. Maybe have a private mode for more sensitive projects. I think we could use some more feedback from some of the power users here that could elaborate on some of the specifics of how that would work.
How did that post get linked there Gai? That looks like the old forum? ❓

I've seen things (that can ALREADY be done in SU NOW) that'd amaze you! Please, wait a couple of weeks.

well that sounds really promising, Gaieus. now you made me really 😲

but in the meantime we could develope the idea even further. what for example is about the sharing of textures? if one member of the conference adds a texture... will it be uploaded to the others instantly or not until he presses an update button (to keep traffic down)?

or: could we implement a peer to peer network (what it has to be in any case, I think), where you can use SketchUp to share files (simply drag a file from your computer onto the avatar of one of your friends and the file will be uploaded...) 😎

Oooh, juicy news (sort of 😛) This is a really good idea jakob, and i really look forward to whatever it is your hinting at gai, sounds good.

About the model/texture sharing thing, i can imagine running in to copyright problems very easily with that.

I missed this one - What a fantastic idea Jakob, absolutely fantastic!

We can all do the group chat in msn and skype now, but doing this in SU and being able to see a live model would be simply amazing.
This would make working around problems you encounter so much better with the help of others who have the answer. Some really good possibilties here.

Watch the video and imagine that sketchup on both machines or multiple machines is getting data from a central location a server somewhere. Scott is downloading data sets and that data is then translated by ruby into geometry. It would appear that through ruby Sketchup can communicate bi-directional to a remote computer so the possibility of shared modeling does exist.

that would be awesome. I simply have to trust your judgement with this, for I have no knowledge of programming at all.

but imagine you have a live modeling event going on at the scf, where loads of people can watch someone model in real time...

No, you are not. There are possibilities but we need to organise everything beforehand. There are cool softwres as well. Have a look at Susan's "Webinars" for instance. In this sample video she is tutoring a "class" (notice her online webcam face on the right, too). At around the half of the webinar one of the students shares his computer window with her (and I think with the others) but what is relly cool is that at the end of the sample, she takes control of the student's computer and shows some FOV trick on it remotely! Yes, it's her who is actually modeling there!

I hope, Susan, you don't mind this "free advertising" here! 😉

I'm resurrecting this thread beacause I need a favour. BTW thanks Gai for the free advertising!

When I first launched my webinars I placed the sample video on my website and I wrote the html myself to run it. Now I don't know html formally and despite that I have been making corrections and changes to my webpages for 5 years. Sometimes I get into trouble, like potentially with this video demo page.
Most people had no problem running it but I did get reports, from this forum in fact, that some people wre unable to run it.
I have had a professional revise the code for me but we do need the page tested. If you would be good enough to test the page and report any issues, I would be very grateful. Thanks much guys.

Firefox displays an empty page. Only IE seems to work.

                                Okay,
Active on the site is my old code: http://www.entouragearts.com/webinar.html

on a hidden page is the new professional code: http://www.entouragearts.com/webinarNorm.html

If I could ask you guys to try both and report to me any problems with either specifying the browser you are using? Many many thanks.

Both made FireFox unstable and it crashed.

Was able to see the video with this one "on a hidden page is the new professional code: http://www.entouragearts.com/webinarNorm.html", but had to "Launch in external player".

The first one didn't work with Chrome, but again could "Launch in external player" with the professional coded page.

                                  Have fun...

Thanks for that Dik. They both work fine for me in Firefox.
Can you tell me if you are on Vista or XP?

My pro basically washed his hands of this, not wanting to take more time.He coded it so it would require an external player. He originally gave me a link for a Plug In for Firefox that people would have to download first before opening my link but I think that is inefficient and was looking for an auto download from within the script. So looks like I'm stuck with the one with the external player.

Given that Dik has identified that the professional version is at least preferable in Firefox, I have replaced the link on the site with that version. There is now only a single link to test if you would all be so kind. Please and thank you.

It displays fine on my Firefox at work (although I cannot check the sound as I don't have speakers on this machine).

All in all, Flash would be the most cross platform and cross browser solution IMO.

it worked for me without problem on Chrome. for InternetExplorer I merely had to activate an activeX element to make it work. (both video and sound).
I had to wait for some 20 seconds though for it to load the first bit, but didn't get any status bar of how much was loaded. if someone is impatient, he may not wait long enough for the video to load.

I tried it on XP and will do another test on Vista (with Firefox, IE and Chrome) tonight.
