Scott, the Dirtt (Doing It Right This Time) representative came to our office last year and showed us the "ICE" program. I was mildly interested and got an access code which allowed me to test the program out. (I believe they have a free demo online now). It deals with modular office interiors and allows designers to create spaces and easily price the product. It deals with the Dirtt product only (unless I am mistaken). It is a nice little program but I did not use it past a week of demo. Also, I must have thrown out all the info and codes etc. on my last office clean up as I cannot find anything on it. I just happened to remember the name Dirtt. Home Page: http://www.dirtt.net/home/index.php Ice program link at top or go here: http://www.dirtt.net/ice/ Click on the demo to see what it does.

I just switched to this mouse from a microsoft one with a click wheel. The apple mouse works great in everything except sketchup. I can't get the orbit command to work while using the follow me tool. Once the left button is depressed you can't press the center "track ball" to orbit. I think I am going to switch back unless anyone here has a solution to this (other than remapping orbit to the side button.)

Nice. Asustek really is somehow fashioning itself into the inexpensive Apple "alternative"...and hopefully it will be as hack-friendly as an Eeepc notebook. By the way, SU runs dandy on both of the Eeepc notebooks I own. (Yes, I have two now. Don't ask.) Look here and scroll down to see their tiny reply to the Mac Mini, the "Ebox."

DavidM, Running the 32-bit versions of those 2 programs you mention shouldn't be a problem in XP 64 or Vista 64. But indeed, if you can get a hold of the 64 bit versions you are better of... Since my switch to 64 bit (Vista Business 64) I didn't have any real issue. As opposed to 32 bit windows, you will have two 'Program Files' folders. One for 64 bit apps and a 'Program Files (x86)' folder for the old 32-bit applications. As an experiment, I even tried to install Sketchup in the 64 bit Program Files folder and it worked . But it still reacts as the typical old fashioned 32 bit app it is currently (low amount of RAM adressing, monocore only etc...).

I'm actually more interested in the low-power, low-heat Intel Atom and its variations. An Eeepc (the 901) with that chip came out the day before yesterday, to much acclaim. I may have to buy yet another Eee sometime in October when the next gen is due. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080602-atom-everywhere-intels-mid-netbook-and-nettop-strategy.html

Thank you very much. I actually have found that plug-in, which I guess leads me to the real issue, of how the heck does Radiance work. As it says in the description of sutorad, the plugin won't help you use Radiance. The whole Radiance community seems hard to get into, and yet it seems like it is such a powerful tool. I want to be learn how to use Radiance, and I would love to use sketchup models with it.

PC only. I've actually had a decent experience with Google Docs, especially since Google granted me the option of working on my Docs offline with Google Gears.

@cloverleaf said: Jim, how do you use that? It's specifically made to take advantage of nvidia hardware. I guess it's geared towards Maya and Max, as plugins are provided for these applications. But that also means a SketchUp plugin is a possibility. As Lewis says, it's probably not practical to use with SketchUp at this time.

Nn, i havent tried that yet, i'll give it a go next time i boot up. Although you can do this for lots of distros, this one's just very nice in it's simplicity. You jsut have to tell it where to find the fedora liveCD and where your USB is and it will go. Good for the stupid folk like me

Hey Lewis Mate I've really only just joined this forum, the PPB is pretty much home for my SU fix as it covers a broader range of design topics not limited to SU! I dropped in for the first time the other week from a link on the PPB and have decided to register and hang around a bit! Must say I always find it funny how every forum I visit I get Richard as my username!! always a surprise really, make me feel important as if it's reserved - or is it simply no one wants to get called "Dick"?

I guess I don't use it enough to experience those problems. The only reason I use the XP version on the MBP, would be the lack of certain shortcuts in the OSX version. @gata said: PC user here, but I still read Mac problem threads. in other words, they need the whole nine yards (US WWII slang. Turret machine gunners in big figther airplanes had 9 yards of ammo between reloads.) I love this little tidbit of info !
