BUT... then you can select the facets [leaving the lowest ones unselected], Rotate tool locked flat with shift-key and snapped to top apex, rotate them by a suitable angle [depends on the number of segments in the original circle] - or snap rotate vertex to midpoint.
Then deselect the lowest selected facets etc, repeat the rotation step... repeat this until all of the facets are rotated and the facets' angles are all 'equilaterals'...

hi,TIG,thanks for your reply. It could work for a regular shape like sphere or cylinder. If I have more complex geometry it's hard selecting specific edges one by one and rotate them. I think there must be a sort of algorithms to firstly divide mesh by hexagons or diamond pattern and then subdivide it in triangles. It could be convenient if there is ruby code, instead of using other program.

Anyone knows how to diagonalize a quad mesh in SketchUp like this?

There is max script called 'detachbyID'. Export as 3ds and then you can easily apply materials in SketchUp.

By the way, for this project, all buildings were randomly generated by script.Go kalid.net for details. It's a sort of parametric city generator and good for urban planner.

Buildings were generated in 3ds max, and then rendered in 4000X1920 in SketchUp. Click to enlarge

    • RE: Walk through de_dust (Counter Strike)

10 minutes or something doesn't need a long time using LightUp Demo

The 3d engine of Walkabou3D is pretty much better than Sketchup.yeah, i think i could be a solution for making some architectural walk through or it could be funny to show somethings to clients.

It's a pity you cannot add any interctive elements. Maybe there is gonna be something in next version of Walkabout3d.

I downloaded the model from from 3dwarehouse.com and modifed it a little bit. Then I made some rendering with light maps and finally exported the model to a program called walkabout3d. Now you see what I did.You can walk through the game scene. It's been quiet because you don't have an AK-47 or meet any terrorists.

Just download and simply run EXE! WASD for movement,SPACE for jump,F5 for through the wall,F8 for fly mode
      Have fun!

    • A model with baked textures

I just finished the texture baking for a model that I downloaded from google. take a look:

      SNAG-0021.jpg
The model is in Sketchup 7 format. To get better texturing quality you need to toggle on the option here:

it's a convincing plugin by any means.i'll try using triangle "joint" like you did. This plugin is a little similar to the alignment tool in 3ds max but more useful.it's good starting. Thanks for your wonderful staff!

The ideal of using component as a "joint" to line up objects is promising.
I tried.Amazing! not easy to control the orientation up to now.
