I believe that this is based on a bridge that was made in England, and it generates enough power to run the lights on part of the road, makes a ton of sense to me!

RE: Vista, should I upgrade?
Customer demand, because Vista eats ram for lunch!
I would say Coen, that it was a combination of Video, and System lag... seemed like it took forever to do anything! too many background gadgets, and system processes that were utterly useless to me.
I also, you must realize, hate most operating systems. I have my XP set up without a wallpaper, with as close as I can get to a Win 95 theme. I have absolutely all animations turned off, and almost all notifications. I personally would rather see good looking programs, that do what they need to do (and take up what RAM they need), rather than windows squishing up and down from the taskbar. (I absolutely abhor that about OS X) and while I'm on a rant, I hate Linux, because it is too hard to get into, I love the idea behind it, it just doesn't support the software I need, and I don't have the time to re-learn how to use an OS

Vista, should I upgrade?
Hey Coen,
I recently bought a laptop that came with Vista pre-installed. I got Vista ultimate, and I have more than the recommended system requirements - dual core T7400 processor 2 GB ram, 160 GB HDD etc, and Vista still ran choppy! I immediately uninstalled and put XP back on. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to use SU on vista, as the patch hadn't been released yet, but i can't imagine how slow it would have been when your OS alone is sucking up 512MB of RAM! My suggestion, don't get it, wait for a few years, until the bugs are all settled and then upgrade

RE: DPIs for the www
I like to pretend I know photoshop well (I am the PS and SU guru in the office, though thats not saying much) but when it comes to the crazy features that you need only every once in a while PS is great for those things!
I learned a lot from my buddy who did billboards in Costa Rica, he was telling me that they had to do the entire sign at 1200 DPI, I can't even imagine the amount of RAM that would kill!
EDIT:
200th post! huzzah! -
RE: DPIs for the www
When I'm throwing together web pages, I set up my tables first, then use that area to determine how big my image will be... mucking around with DPI is rather pointless...
on another note, DPI is a left-over term from dot matrix printers (remember the really loud screeching ones) and PPI is just some other software developer trying to confuse more people... What software are you using that says that?

RE: Kannonbal in the house
Hey Chuck,
Didn't realize that you were in Whitefish?! That is by far my favourite town south of the border! (although I haven't visited many lol) My Uncle has a cabin just in between Kalisbel and Whitefish that I frequent for golf during the summer and the amazing snowboarding on big mountain during the winter! great place to be! If you're on your way to Edmonton, may I suggest a stopover in good ol' Calgary (The hockey is better here anyways! lol jk)

RE: Office Pranks
When I worked in a shop (fixing trucks etc) we had a regular broom that we had drilled a hole in the end of, and glued a 1.5' end of an extension cord into. we gave the broom to the new kids, and told them it was a new electric broom, that had to be plugged in to work. it was hilarious to watch them drag a huge extension cord around to plug in the 'electric broom'
(this really only worked on their first day, when they were too nervous to notice how dumb they were lol!)

RE: Media Players......? John Sayer, you'd be a good start!!!!
I exclusively use winamp. it is by far the best media player I have ever used. It takes the best from all media players and combines them into one glorious program. you can use it with your ipod (no itunes required at all!), it can play realmedia files, and windows media files.
it also has the best selection of plugins and visualizations!the best part is, the program is free for basic, and $20 USD for pro. highly reccomended.

Sorry Tom if it seemed I was misinterpreting your point. I did assume you were making a positive point but thought it was important to clarify. Here in Canada we have a similar honour called the Order of Canada. Like MBE's and OBE's, it is based on service. Arguably the highest honour in Canada is to be appointed to our Senate. Senate appointees are supposed to be on the basis of service but unfortunately partisan politics play a major role in who gets the honour just as it appears to with Supreme Court appointments in the USA. Thankfully honours like the MBE really do go to those deserving the recognition.
I thought that it is possible for Canadians to still receive British Awards like this? My friends father, whom is a lawyer recently was awarded the Queens Council, which I had assumed is a British thing...
In any and all regards Congratulations! I can't think of a better honour than serving one's country and being recognized for it!
PS: (I hope this doesn't open a bag of worms..) EEE Senate!

RE: Musically inclined.
I suppose I should be musically inclined, it runs in my family pretty strong. I've got 3 uncles, one who plays the drums, and teaches at the musicians institute in Hollywood. Another, whom has his own line of guitar amps, and a few patents on guitar/banjo/sitar technology. And my last uncle recently won a lifetime achievement award, for running the best high school band program in the country for the last 10 years.
I...can't play anything though! lol

RE: Things to be proud of!
afraid it's already happened... it was a little while ago, I believe they are in the process of the merge
the insider info you really should be looking for out of Canada, is Lulu Lemon, a yoga based clothing company (exploding here in Canada, crazy popular) They have announced that they will be going public, and if I can get my hands on some o dat stock, I will just retire! lol
Check it out!

RE: Things to be proud of!
So, heres the scoop on the phone:
Mr. Bell, originally Scottish, moved to Canada, developed part of the technology, moved to America (and became a citizen) developed more of the technology, moved back to Canada, and finished the technology making the worlds first phone call.
furthermore, regarding the wonderbra, you will soon see a conglomerate made from Victoria's secret, and LaSenza (LaSenza being the company with the patented bra)
and Alan, if you had to pick say 5 of your favourite British inventions, what would they be?
(mine would probably be the English language, lol)
EDIT
Ross, can the vortex flushing toilet correct that oddity south of the equator, and force the water down the drain in the proper direction? if so, then yes, it is more important than TV lol

RE: Feline Grim Reaper
you would think that a cat like that might demoralize the patients a lot. Say for example, you're feeling fine, and then the cat hops up on your bed... omen? freaky stuff!
