this is very questionable for me. Are you ready to give them access to all (incl. bank operations, Paypal, pron.. you name it) your private data ? This is ridiculous IMHO.

I was going to try Feedly, and when I saw this I too got spooked and changed my mind. I just wanted to see what the Feedly interface looked like since they don't have any decent screen shots on their web.

Guess I'm sticking with Netvibes, although I still like Google Reader the best.

    • RE: Google Reader alternatives.

I use three Google apps every day: iGoogle, Google Reader, and Gmail. (edit: and Google Calendar)

Google's decision to drop iGoogle and Reader has really given me second thoughts about supporting anything Google does in the future. 😞

Right now I'm trying out Netvibes, which isn't too bad and looks like it could work as a combination of iGoogle and Reader for me. For example I can add in widgets to capture my Google Calender, Gmail, a simple to do list, plus all of my RSS feeds. It was easy to import all of my reader settings.

The other one that I am trying is "The Old Reader" which looks a lot like Google Reader, but has been totally swamped by traffic due to the announcement. Because of that, they are unable to let you import your feeds - you have to do it manually, and so far I've been only able to get one of them loaded. But this looks like it would be a nice reader once they get back up to speed.

      Both are free and cloud-based.

The material for the CRT is awesome ! indeed you achieved your goal ! Care to share the technique ? πŸ‘

I created a 3D lens shape, because in Kerkythea you need an airtight object to use the dielectric glass. I rounded the edges of the glass lens and make the outside curve a bit different than the curve of the plastic bezel and moved it back a bit - all this to give a bit of a shadow around the edges like you usually see.

Then, behind the glass lens inside the case I placed a screen to use as a background for the gray. I figured I could play with this material in Kerkythea and adjust it until I was happy with the color.

      Thanks for the nice comments!

SketchUp and Kerkythea. My interest in creating this model was to see if I could accurately portray the picture tube.

      Excellent.

When at the SU offices in October I spotted your motorbike on their walls.

Can we add this to the gallery? Some SU output would be nice too πŸ‘

      Sure! Thanks!
There's a SU image on the WIP post that I linked to but I think I may change the color of the rim and repost it here.

The advantage of this : no need brakes! πŸ˜‰

Actually, a lot of people put brakes on them! Take another look at the picture of the frame and you'll see that it has mounting brackets for brakes!

    • Unicycle WIP (literally!)

Hi gang...I thought some of you might be interested in taking a peek at a new unicycle that I'm making - both in SketchUp and in real life!

When finished, this will be a 24" custom mountian uni (Muni). My goal was to build it as light and strong as possible, and to save money buy using whatever used components I could find and by building the wheel myself. I've been taking care of my bikes and truing wheels for many years, but this was my first wheel build, so I was really excited to start this project.

I figured while I was at it, I'd create a model in SketchUp at the same time!

Here's a Kerkythea render of what I have built so far. I'm going to make this very close to the real thing, but it's fun to change a few things here and there - like the pedals.

      Nimbus unicycle WIP.jpg

Here's the actual parts that I'm building up. The frame, seat-post, and seat are used components - they only cost me $75!

      Nimbus build 1.jpg

Here's the first step in the wheel build, putting in the trailing spokes on both sides of the hub. Make a mistake here, and you'll be taking everything apart later!

      Nimbus build 3.jpg

Here's how the wheel looks after all the spokes are in, before it is tensioned and trued.

      Nimbus build 4.jpg

For a unicycle, it's easy to just put the wheel in the frame and use it as a truing stand.

      Nimbus build 5.jpg

And here's the wheel all built up.
      Nimbus build 6.jpg

My next step is to start modelling the frame, seat post, and seat (not looking forward to that πŸ˜† )

That's great. Is that a SU line overlay? and what did you do for such great AO?

Thanks! I used Kerkythea for the render, and then I used the Topaz Adjust "Exposure Color Stretch" filter, and yes, I overlayed the SU lines on top.
