Unicycle WIP (literally!)

Hi gang...I thought some of you might be interested in taking a peek at a new unicycle that I'm making - both in SketchUp and in real life!

When finished, this will be a 24" custom mountian uni (Muni). My goal was to build it as light and strong as possible, and to save money buy using whatever used components I could find and by building the wheel myself. I've been taking care of my bikes and truing wheels for many years, but this was my first wheel build, so I was really excited to start this project.

I figured while I was at it, I'd create a model in SketchUp at the same time!

Here's a Kerkythea render of what I have built so far. I'm going to make this very close to the real thing, but it's fun to change a few things here and there - like the pedals.

Here's the actual parts that I'm building up. The frame, seat-post, and seat are used components - they only cost me $75!

Here's the first step in the wheel build, putting in the trailing spokes on both sides of the hub. Make a mistake here, and you'll be taking everything apart later!

Here's how the wheel looks after all the spokes are in, before it is tensioned and trued.

For a unicycle, it's easy to just put the wheel in the frame and use it as a truing stand.

And here's the wheel all built up.

My next step is to start modelling the frame, seat post, and seat (not looking forward to that )

Actually, a lot of people put brakes on them! Take another look at the picture of the frame and you'll see that it has mounting brackets for brakes!
