Making the logs profile is easy enough, but how do i apply each course to the design? Is there a way to make a log profile once, then keep copying from that?
Are their any good tut's on log home design?
How about end grain and log textures?

      Thank You

Jim, when i save the file, i have a choice between .skp or 'all files'.
Originally, i saved it as .skp. How do i save as an image?

I tried to insert an image onto my website, but it say 'this file type not allowed'.
Is there a way to change the file type, or some other way around this?
The website builder is 000webhost if that helps.
      Thank you

    • RE: What's your beginners tip?

As a complete newb myself, i would have to say use the instructor function to familiarize yourself with each tool and spend some time with each one.
Think of a simple project to do and see how it turns out.
Use this in conjunction with asking for advice and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I would like to thank Gaieus for helping me out with a simple pvc fitting tut.
With that, i was able to create more complicated fittings on my own, first try!

Thank you Gaieus for the help!

    • RE: Sketchup Reflective Function

      @thomthom said:

There is a solar panel Dynamic Component that orient itself towards the sun. Have you seen that?

No, i have not seen that component. I have read that there is a sun component that is able to cast shadows from roof overhangs, trees and such.
That is why i thought it would be cool to add a reflective feature. Seems that the tough hurdles have already been done if it calculates sun position, latitude and longitude at any given time of the year. That is pretty amazing in itself.

Can someone explain the function a bit and maybe do a quick tut on how it works?

      Thanks a whole bunch thomthom.

    • Sketchup Reflective Function

What an incredibly useful tool this would be. A reflective function that would give a visual impression of the angle of incidence and reflection from the sun at any given time of the year.

I would give it the impression of casting light, as well as black lines with pertinent values such as angles, projected path, time of the year, ect.
Could be used together or independent of each other, depending on the presentation or design requirements.

This would be extremely useful for designing solar homes reflectors and what ever else you can think of.
It would also allow for solar collector and greenhouse placement relative to surrounding structures trees and terrain.

Designing solar concentrators and collectors would be a snap if angles of incidence and reflection could be determined and projected as needed.
Solarium's, greenhouses, overhangs, gardens, the list is endless.

Hey, while your at it, how about linear and fluid motion? πŸ˜„

    • RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

      Hello everybody,
my name is Ron and i am new to SU and this community, so i thought i would drop in and say hi.
I have no background in architecture or c.a.d. so i am starting in the basement here.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good tut for making pvc pipe fittings.
If i could make a basic tee and 4-way, i should be able to figure out the other configurations from there.
when i place a circle and try to get the proper size, the measurements increase so quickly that i cannot get a precise measurement. I tried to place the measurements in the window myself, but it won't let me type anything.
From there, i just made a simple tube of a random diameter (simple enough), but trying to make it into a tee proved my lack of understanding. I downloaded a model of a tee which i could use, but want to learn how to do it myself. I deconstructed it to see the process of how the tee was attached and noticed that a cutout where the tee attached looked like it was drawn in freehand, then erased out.
I tried to apply the technique, but it kept erasing the side of the pipe or my cutout arc. Seeing that you can't extrude off of a round outer surface, i am stumped and probably an idiot, but i need some help. πŸ˜•

I know it's my own ignorance of the program, so a bump-start would be highly appreciated. πŸ˜„

      Thank you
