Thanks Daniel. Yeah a little dark , was sort of what I was shooting for actually. Don't know why but if you click on the small image to view full size it doesn't look quite as dark as the small sized image . Still plan on running some new views and when time allows.

RE: Smoothing advice? Updated
Bryan, I'm no wizard with Artisan and only started working with SubD several months ago. I seemed to have trouble controlling the result subdividing and smoothing in Artisan. I'm sure it was operator error. Have tended to use Artisan's sculpt tools after getting a base mesh using Curviloft over a wire framework I would draw. Just seemed to be able to control the result better. This was mostly modeling animals.
I've had good luck with SubD so far. Still learning best practices for building the proxy model, but much better able to control the result it seems.
Forgot to ask if you had used native smoothing on the model. Hopefully some of the more experienced guys will be along with better advice. -
RE: Smoothing advice? Updated
Bryan, SubD or Artisan ? Using the crease tool to maintain hard lines where desired....

RE: HISTORY IN 3D
Simply incredible ! The amount of front end research that must have been done before the first model was drawn. Then the modeling.... boggles the mind..... -
RE: Mod Den
thanks garystan. hoping to have time to set up some different scene views , play with the lighting and see what else I can come up with.

RE: Mod Sofa & Chair
JQL, I appreciate your input and don't disagree with your point. That's one of the things I'm struggling with on learning to do these sofa and chairs. Finding the balance in the "puffyness" of the cushions but not lose the look of the intended design. I actually do have loft in the cushions and sides etc , just not enough apparently. It will look fine on the proxy ( sometimes looks like too much ) then I loose some of the loft when I subdivide and smooth. Still learning and fine tuning. I'll get there....
garystan, cotty, HornOxx, thanks for the positive comments. not sure how good an example it would make for SubD. Still learning and not sure I'm always using "best practices" making the proxy models.....

RE: Mod Sofa & Chair
jql, curious what you mean by stiff ? it is very rectilinear in it's lines if that is what your referring to. Modeled it off the drawings of an actual design. I think these mid century style sofa's are kind of you love the look or you don't. doesn't seem to be much middle ground. they for sure don't have the curves and "puffiness" of at lot of other styles.

RE: Home made Lights for twilight render v2.
Mike , sorry you seem to be having some problems over on the Twilight forum. Like pbacot I've found them to be very helpful. all that aside , what kind of lights are you trying to make ? Some of the Twilight user over here may be able to help you out too.

RE: Pine Forest
very cool. really like the camera view. just curious , all trees and plants 3D. if so can't imagine the poly count.

RE: Creating very small objects
moot, Not real sure what's causing your trouble but here's some possible fixes. To zoom in on stuff as I model I just use "orbit" hold the cursor over the object and scroll my middle wheel on my mouse. Gets me as close as I need to go. As for precision it depends on your drawing template your using. I use the "Construction Documentation-Feet and Inches" template in my work. The tape measure tool goes down to 1/16" in this template. I've never used it but I suspect the templates such as "Woodworking-Inches" or "Woodworking-Millimeters" let you work accurately at measurements below 1/16". ( going to have to try that some time ).
Posted a pic of a couple of simple objects I just drew. The object on the left is 1/4" dia. with 1/8" dia. hole and 1/16" thick. Do you need to get smaller than that?
Hope this helps. If not, elaborate a little more on the problem ,maybe a pic ?

Mod Sofa & Chair
Here's a pic of my second sofa model. Got the sofa finish and figured what the heck let's make a chair and ottoman too ! Used SubD and a quick render in Twilight. It's not Alvis quality furniture but still think it turned out pretty nice, you got to start somewhere.
Going to throw out a few thoughts to newer SU users, and I don't mean this to be bragging. I know it can get frustrating learning this stuff but hang in with it. Dig around this site there's tons of great information. Ask questions somebody will help you out. There is A LOT of great people on this site. Practice practice practice. 3-4 years ago the ONLY thing I could do on a computer was send e mail and look up stuff on the internet. I think I've made pretty good progress and this site has had a whole lot to do with my progress. That and practice , practice , practice. Don't give up you'll get where you want to go.

p.s. also posted a pic showing the control mesh.

jo-ke here's 5 thumbs
even though I only have 2. As always your work is wonderful. Can't resist asking if you ever model anything simple ?

RE: [Restaurant Renders]
Nice renders. I agree with Richard about the fish tank ( not sure that's what it is ? ) .If it had some transparency it would look a lot better. One other thing, I find the people that have some "blur" to them a little distracting to the images. I won't knock the general design other than it's not really my style, but your renders show the place very well.
