Hello,
Unfortunately, the behavior you are describing, Ezdmanx, is a known limitation of textures/images on the PC. Ansii, background photos, as you noticed, are processed differently, so this limitation does not apply to them.
For SU7, on the PC, the "Use Maximum texture size" option affects only the display of textures/images on the screen. On the Mac, however, the option affects both the display as well as export/printing. My understanding of the PC limitation is that Microsoft's OpenGL version does not support larger textures and we need to use their limited renderer for printing/exporting as many PC graphics cards don't support off-screen rendering, or don't support it robustly.
I did check our Help documents and I don't think this is very well documented. I'll request that the documents be updated. Coming up with a solution to this OS related issue is also a feature request that we hope to address in the future.
Sorry I don't have better news at this point...
Best regards,
Tricia
Google QA
Hi Hannsen,
I'm so sorry that I didn't respond to you earlier. I started a response, but I must have forgotten to hit "Submit".
There is one more thing I can think of to try. In addition to deleting the com.google.sketchuppro.plist, could you also delete the com.AtLast.sketchup.plist (assuming you have one). Does that help?
If not, contact the technical support folks at Google using http://sketchup.google.com/gsu6/support.html.
Are you, by any chance, using a localized version of the product? I guess that could be another potential source of the problem.
Best,
Tricia
Hi there,
It sounds like your plist may be the culprit. Go to your <username> > Library > Preferences directory and rename the com.google.sketchuppro.plist to something else. Relaunch SketchUp.
Does that help?
Hi Jim,
Sorry to hear about your model. I'll send you a private message regardimg how to send the model directly to us. We'll take a look and see if we can help out.
Best,
Tricia
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having problems Jeremy. Two things:
Can you submit the BugSplat crash again and put your full name in the "Name" field? Let me know when you have done that and I'll look at your BugSplat info to see if it gives us any clues about the nature of your crash.
Are you using the English version of SketchUp? I remember awhile ago there was a problem with 3d exporters and localized versions....
Best regards,
Tricia
Hi Chuck,
I think I may know what is going on with this issue. I believe your images have an exif (common to digital cameras) format - true? If so, we have finally isolated a bug with exif formatted images. Those images can display correctly on the Mac but fail to display on the PC. Unfortunately, the only workaround that I have found is to save the images with a different format. We are working on this issue though.
Does that help?

Tricia

Happy Birthday Susan! Come visit again soon!

Hello Juan,
Excellent. I'm glad that all is working again. Yes, let's blame it on Papa Noel this time.
Happy holidays!
Tricia
Thanks Juan for all of the answers. But I'm afraid that I'm REALLY confused now!
Would you mind doing one more thing? Could you post a screenshot of the Evaluation dialog you are seeing? That might provide some clues...
Thanks for helping us troubleshoot this one.
Tricia
Hi Juan,
I went to http://sketchup.google.com/download.html and downloaded the Free version. I'm not immediately seeing the issue - I am getting the Free version and I don't have 8 hours of evaluation time. I agree it would be confusing to download Free and get the Pro product.
It is true though that if you download the Pro product and use your 8 hours of evaluation time, it will revert to the Free functionality - limited exporters and no LayOut. This is because, if you choose to buy the product later, all you need is a license as you already have all of the software you need to turn it into a Pro product. If however you know you never want to buy the Pro product you should get the Free product - the download is faster and you need not bother with seeing the evaluation dialog.
That sounds like what you tried to do but it is not working for you! I'm not sure what is happening. You are determining you have the Pro product because you see the Evaluation dialog - right? Did you download from the link above or did you go to some other link? It sounds like you already ruled out ever installing a Pro version on that machine - correct? And you're not running that machine on a network with Pro... One thing that would be interesting to check is whether you have a "LayOut" subdirectory under C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6. That would be one indication that you truly got the Pro product...

Tom,
I'd like to see that model too.
Just checking a few things which may seem obvious, but I don't want to assume:

Tricia,
Thanks for replying- almost all my model locations are set to Edinburgh, Scotland (UK). I've just checked and three models which are displaying this bug have North Angles of 190°, 0° and 25. I'm pretty sure all my skp files display this bug, but not all of them have scenes saved with shadows. I'd be happy to email them to you.
Regards,
Thanks Jackson .... I'll probably take you up on your offer.
Since I last posted, looks like one of the developers has an idea of what the issue may be. Having your model will help prove the proposed fix is a good one.
Best,
Tricia
Hello everyone,
Jackson - regarding the "shadow settings saved in scenes get reset between sessions". What location do you have set on the Model Info > Location tab? I'm looking at a model right now that shows the issue trying to figure this one out. The model has a location of Scharendijke, Netherlands. In this model, if I look at the sunrise and sunset times, they are wrong. Do you see the same thing in your model? And I'm experiencing the same symptoms as it seems you are experiencing... I can reset the shadow fixing the sunrise/sunset times for the current session, but after saving the model and reopening it, the times/shadows are incorrect again. What is frustrating though is that I can't recreate the issue from scratch to figure out how those sunrise/sunset times got messed up...
Tom - does the slowdown you are seeing occur on all of your models?
Thanks,
Tricia

No improvement I'm afraid. I do have console log showing a lot of lines like this -
Hi Tim,
I forwarded your log on to the Developers to see if it gives them some clues. Thanks for providing it.
Are you seeing the same problem on every model you try to upload to the warehouse? What if you take a simple box, paint it with a few textures and upload it?
Thanks in advance,
Tricia
