Lewis, instead of making such an fuss of yourself why don't you rather show us some of the studies you have done with Rhino's explicit history?

      Lewis,

      • Significantly, you assumed that my comment was a reference to you.
Apparently you did not learn the basics of a professional response from all the great schools and teachers that you had.
I cannot expect any better from someone who would publicly slur a well respected international architect on a public forum. Does this 'impress' the students that you teach?

I am here, like most of the members of this forum to share in the discussions, information and ideas introduced by more knowledgeable members of this forum. I am sorry if you feel that my minimal contributions fall short of the standards that you set.

The original poster of this topic went to some effort to lay the foundation for what could have been a very interesting and informative topic. It is frustrating when the opportunity to develop the discussion as intended, is quickly undermined and diluted with unrelated issues. It is certainly unacceptable that you feel obliged to resort to insults when I express my objections in this regard. Moreover, it is not for you decide on or pass instruction with regard to participation by anyone on this forum.

I marvel at how this topic has turned into a name- / techno-dropping nonsense.
Let's see some results of using the tools rather than just talking about it (or any other random unrelated ramble.)

    • RE: Function "Command" From lisp

The blokes at HQ would make life a lot simpler if they could provide simple GET functions (GETPoint,GetAngle,GetDistance etc.) - quite difficult and probably beyond many to do in Ruby with a tools class. If only they would apply the Sketchup 'simplicity' ethos to the API.

    • RE: SOLVED: Graphics card

Search the forum posts for discussions on this topic. Stick with NVidea (recommended by Google) and buy the best one you can afford. Personally I have had fantastic results with the Nvidea Quadro cards but many here may feel that it is too pricey.

Tip: Whatever you do make sure you take advice from someone who has actually used the specific hardware you prefer instead of relying on untested opinions.

    • RE: Autodesk loses court case

I agree, a very readable article.

It makes me wonder how the First Sale Doctrine affects sale/licensing of content e.g. such as that sold on FormFonts. (As a content developer myself, [not associated with FF] this is of some concern to me.)

    • RE: 3D Basecamp - "The Best of Ruby" presentation

      Todd,
      (Off topic I know:)
While you're there could you ask the blokes at HQ to integrate a routine for running ruby scripts from the COM API? Something like .RunRubyScript(RubyFile) that exits with the script return value. This will open all kinds of possibilities for automation.

I suggested this to @Last many moons ago and the man agreed that it was a good idea but alas nothing came of it.

      Good luck with the presentation.

    • Incorrect Units when Exporting Slices

Maybe somebody can check if they get the same issue:
When exporting slices from models set up in metric millimeters it exports the file (dwg) as inches.
      (1200mm = 1200 inches).
I think the exporter is just setting the incorrect unit flag in the file.

(Admin : If this is a bug then please feel free to move to the bug forum.)

    • Point, Length and Angle Selection

I'm hoping some of the resident ruby experts will be able to help me.

Is there a simple way to obtain a mouse point pick value without coding a tool class?
(something like 'getpoint' in autocad vba.)

Also is it possible to use the Sketchup protractor to select and return an angle in ruby?

      Any help will be appreciated.

    • RE: Saving Tif file Error

Somebody else found a solution to this problem a while back, but I don't remember whom:
Try increasing your virtual memory substantially (5-20 000 MB) and see what that does. You should be able to export to larger files with AA on. Alternatively this will allow you to export really big with AA off and the reduce in Photoshop or similar to a meaningful size which will soften the edges to good quality.

The first thing to remember is this is patently geared towards engineers and product development.

I don't take the point. - Sketchup was originally targeted at architects but we all know how many other uses it has been put to quite succesfully since then. To dismiss this modelling technology on that basis would be a mistake.
