Looks like the file is too large to upload here, hence why it didn't show up in my previous comment. Here's a link to the file where I host it in a cloud account: https://ln2.sync.com/dl/ea3e5f7c0/jnucurw9-xhbtu6m5-3x3nk9p8-bzxt6zpn

I definitely do not need all that internal geometry! I think that's why the file is so obnoxiously large. Does anyone have a good trick to make an object hollow? I am starting to think either I am missing some menu options in JointPushPull, or this is really not the tool to be using here.

I manipulated the surface with sandbox tools a little and found that when I pushed/pulled, it also pished/pulled the bottom surface, which I intended to be flat! I think I am down the wrong path for how I want to be working with this model...

    • Issue making 3D Terrain: Google and JointPushPull

I thought it would be really neat to have 3D terrain that was a solid, like a physical model from elevation slices. Idea from TheSketchupEssentials (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Pxl0pjOkW0&t=207s). I imported terrain data, made it a solid with Fredo6's JointPushPull Vector Push Pull tool, with option "project shape onto a plane". I've tried hiding lines, but I still see white show through at oblique angles. Any ideas?

    • Swapped components location error

      Hi SketchUcation Community,

I was trying to swap components, and "dynamic component-->swap components" took me to my file folder "Components" which was empty. So I started a collection in the 3D warehouse. I then noticed the menu item "3D warehouse" --> "reload", so I tried that, thinking it a quicker way than having to have all my components downloaded and sorted in a folder. When I reloaded it with the component I wanted to use instead, it did swap the components, but in a different location!

These were in a wall at one point... before I swapped components.

Any advice on what's going on, or wisdom on how to do this procedure more efficiently? I am working professionally and trying to be more efficient and up my SU game, and it's frustrating to keep having annoying little things like this slow me down so much! Any advice appreciated.

      Sincerely,
      Torrey Burke-Weeks

I think you'll find that is you are seeing the section planes through the section fill.

Thank you so much for the help! I didnt quite understand the above section. Are you saying that leaving the cut active but hiding the section pane might give a better look, or for another reason?

I noticed the foundation says it is a solid, says it is on layer 0, but when I hide the roof layer a face dissapears. When I edit the foundation component and highlight the offending face, it says it is in the roof framing layer! I suspect this is what is wrong with my baseplate too.

What makes this happen and how do I avaid it in the future? I've been doing this for a few years, and it seems every time I make a model I then have to spend a few hours chasing down wierd little oddities like this.

    • Help with Section Cuts etc.

I've been using SU Pro 2017, 2018, and now 2019. There are some things that drive me nuts. Here are two of them I ran into this morning.

      1. Section fill does not work on my baseplate. Why? It is a solid component with a volume, I tried reversing the faces.

Why is my baseplate not filling in??

      1. How to resize section cut? It is huge. Verified there are no elements outside the main drawing floating out in space. I will be exporting to layout and making construction docs, hence I want the model nice and compact.

Why so big, how to resize?

      1. It seems anytime I leave a SU file alone, it gets cozy with its neighbors and out pops another one. Pretty soon I have 5 files, some autosave files, backups, and I keep having to delete them. What even is the difference between these, and any advice for this situation?

Leave a model alone out pops another

      Thank you for your help!

P.s. I know I will run across more of these little annoyances that I'd love help with, is it preferable that I add them here, or make a new topic each time?
