      Welcome

Without the actual SKP it's hard be be certain...
If all of the geometry is in one big lump then it sticks together - useful in some circumstances but annoying if you want to move one bit...
However, grouped geometry or geometry that's been made into a component moves without sticking to other stuff...
So select what you want to move, right-click context-menu, Make Group.
Now Select the group and Move it to where you want.
Use inference snaps like mid-point etc
You can make exact moves by typing in the value in the 'VCB' Measurement box.
You can add guide-points and guide-lines [Tapemeasure-tool] at specific locations and snap to these too... πŸ€“

Yes guidelines saw that in one of the Sketch vids, it's very interesting I'll need that when I model my Dell and it's modded counterpart πŸ˜„

Cheers for the response mate, I think it's all lumped together, but I'll attach it for you to see yourself πŸ˜„ It's not really a problem, I read another one of your posts about using an image to make a model so I'll probably use the as a guide from scratch πŸ˜„

If it's aright, can you look at it please and tell me what you think or how to move it? πŸ˜› Thanks!

    • Hi and possibly a big newbie question!

      Hey peeps,

Firstly I'd like to saya big hello to everyone here, and secondly that I found the CAPTCHA system a b***** to get past! πŸ˜› Hard to tell caps from lower case grr..

Any way, I just started using SketchUp a bit yesterday and properly about an hour ago. I can't account for other CAD software but Google SketchUp really feels great to use πŸ˜„

Which contradicts my notion of anguish at not being able to do what I'm supposing is a relatively easy task of moving a part on this computer case that someone else built.. please help me on this?

Basically, I want to know how to centre this entire area (close-up) into the middle of the front panel of the PC case, rather than its left-shift as in the diagram. Trying to use the select tool selects a lot of the case that I want to keep where it is, and I have no idea how to just move the relevant edges.

So basically I want to move that grill, the fan and that whole indention into the centre, but kinda finding it impossible at the mo..

      Thanks a lot πŸ˜„
