    • Tiger II Tank Interior

Hi,I have been working on drawing the interior of a WW2 German tank, the Tiger II.

So far the Turret itself is nearly finish, however as long as I'm not bored, I'll continue to add more and more details. The model is semi realistic, meaning that I have included as much of the interior as possible, but as I dont have a Tiger II in my backyard, I have used pictures as resourses, resulting in free hand drawing.

I would like to have shown you some awesome renders, but apparently Podium dont do too well at Clay renders, or I just havent figured that part out yet.

So here are some screenshots from Sketchup itself, atleast untill, I get a better alternative for clay rendering.

I am already working hard on the Hull interior, but it needs so many more details.

    • RE: Ellipse with equal faces/segments

Thank you very much! Tgi3D did exactly what I wanted, and I figured it out pretty fast thanks to you πŸ˜„

      You just made my day!

    • RE: Ellipse with equal faces/segments

Alright, well, its just not the answer for me, I do understand that the more segments you make the more accurate they will be. But you see, I need an ellipse divided into 80 edges, so that can work on yeach of those edges (they have to be the same) Adding more segments would solve that, lets say, i doubled the number to 160 segments, then I would just have to work with two of them, in the end resulting in the same inaccuracy, and ofcourse, heavier and more demanding geometry.

But I thank you guys, if its not possible, then its not possible, atleast i can stop wondering about all the time πŸ˜„

Oh but while we are it, out of clean curiosity; why do the "Divide" function not work on circles or arches which has been stretched, cut or modified in any way?

    • RE: Ellipse with equal faces/segments

How stupid of me! Ofcourse I mean Edges and not faces, damn how could I mess that up?

Well, heres a simple picture of what I mean:

Normally, when creation ellipses I (and most people) would probably draw a circle, press S on the keyboard (1) and then stretch it. But as you can see (2) this method results in each EDGE having a unique length because that it was stretched. So, how do I make an ellipse where all the edge segments are of equal length?

    • RE: Ellipse with equal faces/segments

What I mean is that, when you create a default circle in sketchup, It consists of 24 faces/lines. All those lines are of equal length, however when you stretch the circle, those lines will be stretched differently resulting in unequal lengths. What I need is an ellipse that has equal segments, where those 24 lines are alike. To precise what exactly I need, it's an ellipse being 189x156 meter, consisting of 80 faces. Now, I'm no noob at sketchup, in fact I believe that I'm pretty good after 4 years of working with the program, but this thing really bugs me. And ofcourse you don't have to tell me how to add more segments to a circle, it was just an example. πŸ˜„

I'll be home in 1 hour then perhaps I can show you a screenshot to specify more clearly.

Btw I already tried that plugin but it also creates unequal segments.

    • Ellipse with equal faces/segments

Hi, I need to create an ellipse in Sketchup. Fair enough, i startet by creating a circle, and then stretching it. Only problem is that each of the faces get strected too, resulting in each of them getting a unique length. Now, I need to create an ellipse where each face got exactly the same size, but it seems nearly impossible to do. I know of the divide function but it seems only to work on circles, lines and arches, that has not been modified or streched again, becomming useless.

SO if anyone got a tip of how to do it, I would be extremely gratefull. Thanks

    • RE: Rebuilding Rome

Yup, i have seen it, and it is bloody amaizing! However, such a detailed model, would NEVER run on even my I7, Quad SLI GTX 295 computer, even if it would one day be released. (And even in that i doubt) So that is why im creating a lite version, not as accurate or as detailed, but just for fun, for people who might want to see how ancient rome might have looked like. And yes, even that is a huge undertaking, that is why im asking for help. Textures, models, maps, information, anything will be huge help. Btw, do you know a good roof texture, that is roman-like? I agree that the original isn't too good.

    • Rebuilding Rome

Hi, I have started a pretty huge project - Rebuilding ancient Rome. Now, i dont mean a 100% accurate copy, that would be crazy, but a model showing all the points of interest, and famous building. To show what i mean, i have uploaded a few screens of my work so far:

      http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o88/stoferr/rome1.jpg

      http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o88/stoferr/Rome2.jpg

Please note that all white boxes and objects are unfinished houses, etc, they will not be a part of the final product.

Now rebuilding a city is a huge undertaking, to if you want to help, i would be extremely happy. Just make some simple models of famous buildings, points of interest, living houses, etc etc. Anything i can use for the city. Then i would be extremely gratefull πŸ˜„

      Thanks for reading.
