Yes, without Filter Blur.
Now, I switched back to Adaptive DMC, min. 1 max. 16, but with noise threshold and color threshold to 0,001. Kind of extreme values for thresholds, but it's almost flawless, and the rendering time in good shape, 8.30 minutes.
I think if you have some texture, the noise will blend nicely and you'll be fine with thresholds @0,005. Here is the image

RE: Controlling texture quality?
Doh...it is DMC not QMC....old habits.
So, next one is Adaptive DMC, min.1 max 50, color threshold 0,002 noise threshold 0,002
Rendering time, less then 5 minutes, but it still has noise on the upper deck, up-right .

RE: Controlling texture quality?
Yup, just tried QMC, with lower thresholds, like 0,002, then tried fixed rate, and it was better. I remember something about using QMC but with adaptive amount set to 1, not to 0,85, with the same results like fixed rate, but half the rendering time. It was long time ago, I don't remember if it was a video tutorial or not, it was for V-ray for max for sure, but the discussion was about image sampling/anti-aliasing stuff.

RE: Controlling texture quality?
I got it spotless with image sampler fixed rate, with 16 subdvs. The rendering time was 20 minutes with a Quad core @2.66. Glad you find a better solution. You got some big brains under that hat.
Anyway, this is the result

RE: What Software to learn
Hi Rich, thanks for your opinion, actually I just realised that if I learn Blender I could do freelancing as well, as it's free, and can not afford to buy software.
Cheers,

What Software to learn
Hello everyone!
I really want to learn another app, beside sketchup, as I could spend an hour or two every day. I'm trying to move on from my actual job, where I spent almost 10 years, and where things don't seams to get better. I'm doing the same thing every day, making cabinets, measurements, technical drawings, cutting lists etc. but less and less renderings. I'm aware about the specific applications for furniture industry, but I'm thinking to learn something like Rhinoceros, Modo, 3ds Max
My first choice would be Rhino, as I really like the "CAD" feeling, and also, I feel comfortable with V-ray (is the same app. as for Sketchup). Plus, the demo version is fully functional.
I tried Modo, and I loved it. The problem is, I'm feeling it's not ready for interior visualisation, but mostly for product rendering.
3ds Max....the "industry standard" ...expensive as hell.
There is Blender as well, but I really don't know. It's hard for me to decide, and I think I need a push in one direction or another. That's the reason I've created this topic actually. So, push me!
Regards,
Stefan -
RE: Once Loved
whenever I click over your images, it's like I have a 3d monitor....and I'm not!

Something odd happening with your AA sampler selection, see the fringing?
If I had a penny every time I said this: " check clamp output and sub-pixel mapping" , those are white values, bigger then 255. V-ray just doesn't know how to represent them.
What do you say guys, Pete has resigned ? -

Here is another one:

RE: Testing Vray, need visopts
Hello Pete! Here is a good one (by Fernando) where he's doing something that I find myself doing it often lately, and that is, starting with default settings. The most important trick I've learned from this, is to make use of the skylight (no sunlight mapped in that slot) instead of putting rectangular lights in the windows. In this way, you don't have to deal with artefacts from the lights, subdivisions etc. His final render looks impressive.
Here is the tutorial, it's only 10 minutes long:

In "indirect illumination" disable "Refractive GI Caustics"

Nice projects! The sawhorses remind me about these :

RE: Hardware advice
How about an upgrade for memory and the video card?
The way I see things, from the specifications:
PC: 4 cores 8 threads ( that means 8 buckets when rendering, but half of the cpu clock), also known as hyper-threading, better for multitasking. That means, in rendering power,
4 cores at 3,4GHz or 8*1,7GHz resulting 13,6 GHz.
Mac: 8 cores at 3 GHz, resulting 24 GHz.
From my point of view, Mac is superior, but lacks at RAM and video.
So, how about an upgrade? -
RE: Thanks for your hard work - Moderators and Top SketchUcators
Thank you guys!!
This is the best place to be. -
RE: HDRI environtment problem and controling shadow
That doesn't look to me like a correct mapped hdri image. Doesn't matter if it's big, small, blurred etc. You probably mapped it like "spherical" as type, and it's not a spherical map. Try "angular" instead. Notice that you cannot zoom in the HDRI. It's like you try to make some objects in an image to look closer. When you choose a HDRI, think about your camera position in the scene, how far you are from the object you're rendering, and try to find a HDRI image with similar shooting conditions.
