Barry, that's what we call a mechanical mod, with an atomizer on top (Kayfun). Basically, it's a metal tube with a big battery inside, rechargeable, and a fire button . It is like your Ego battery, but bigger, just a little bit more powerful. The vaping experience is exactly like yours right now. When the battery is full, you get more consistent vapours. Now, let us talk about the pro's and con's:
Pro's: it is sexy (in my opinion)
you can use a very low resistance in your atomizer, BUT you need a very safe
battery (AW IMR are the best)
it is almost indestructible
Con's: vaping is not consistent, you get less and less volts with every puff you take
it doesn't have any safety, it's a hand grenade if it's firing in the pocket for
example, and the battery is venting....yeah, it's not the safest vape...
you need to keep it clean for perfect contact (fire button, the plus pin etc)
it is in most cases heavier, but I like it like that, so it's not a minus for me
I would recommend you an electronic device (like Provari), because, with these ones, if you set the volts or watts to whatever input, you'll get that for every push of the button, until the device tells you that the battery is low. You can always pick a mec later on, if that sexiness really hunts you .
Good luck, and good job! Life is a little bit better now, you'll see!

Scroll down until you'll find my posts in that thread. This is the way I do it, and it works for me, but you are at the mercy of your map. The gray values in the map, dictates where and how strong your reflection is happen.

RE: Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
Cheers Oli! Yeah, you can use kayfun with just the chimney, but we had dripping atomizers (most of us) for testing all those flavours. I gave up, after changing the wicks for like five times. Everyone had their favourite flavour, but it was so hard to feel anything after 10 different flavours. I was hunting for the perfect tobacco flavor, but again, nothing came close to the one I'm using for a year now. It's called Ace N1 from ecig.eu. Actually, I found ecig flavours to be the best for me. By the way, "ecig" is a brand from Greece, not the abbreviation from the "electronic cigarette". I tried brands like Twisted, John Smith`s Tabacco, FlavourArt, Perfumers Apprentice. I'm yet to try Inawera. It's so hard to recommend a flavour, because choosing the right flavour is so subjective for each individual. We had like two "Bambies" with us, and it was so refreshing to see their interest in everything they touched and tasted.
If I have to recommend you something, I would say go for Twisted, knowing what you like to vape. They are from Germany, and the quality is high. But I know the finest e-liquid is produced in UK, so I think you're ok
I also noticed, almost everybody's interest over box mods. I can't tell why, but I hate them. Maybe because that shape it reminds me about a pack of cigarettes. Ooh, and almost all of us, we had Japanese cotton with micro-coil in our setup. Changing the wicks is super easy, I can't believe you didn't tried yet.
I'm still reading this thread from time to time (from the page one), and I think we had an amazing journey so far. I'm still answer "Oliver from Manchester" , when I am asked what droved me into vaping. So Cheers to you! -
RE: Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
I just got back home from a meeting with some fellows from my town. It's the second one this year, and for the first time, I was there. We had some e-liquids for testing, 70 flavours, to be more precise, and it was great. Can't wait for the next one!
Cheers!

RE: A Way to import .SAT files into SU
I'm not 100% sure, but I think MoI can import these prototyping formats. Then, you can export skp files directly from MoI. I'll PM Pilou, he knows for sure.

RE: Finally gone back(i mean forward) to a PC!
Don't forget about temps Oli. You got one hot cpu - not sexy hot- and I know that, running some benchmarks (I think the last version of Prime) will make the cpu to throttle. I didn't find to much info about the temps when rendering, so, that's why I'm so curious.
Anyway, if you are below 70 degrees Celsius, you should be fine.
Cheers!
Ps: I almost had the money to build a similar rig, based on the same cpu, but something came up, and now I'm breaking my bones again, for extra income. Tough times. -
RE: Ideal Home Magazine Challenge
show off!
This is impressive, I must say. Congrats! -
RE: Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
You better skip this one, Oli. Let me point some of the "features"
- it's heavy
- too many parts, most of them involved in Kong-fu movement
-insatiable liquid evaporator ( I doubled the quantity of liquid per day)
-pointless liquid control( good for refill only, you close the liquid, fill it, open liquid)
-fiddling air control
-better flavour
-more vapour ( if the air is all the way open, but it's like you vape a pipe with 20 mm diameter)
-expensive
The first impression is positive, but I think is placebo. You think it's better, but if you return after couple of days to the kay lite plus, you have a revelation. Kayfun lite plus, gives you overall,a better vaping experience.
Note that I do not have the original. Guys who bought the original, said it's not worth the money.

RE: Finally gone back(i mean forward) to a PC!
Oli, if you have the time, do post your cores temps, when you render. I'm very curious about Haswell temps under that task.
Thanks! -
RE: Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
C'mon Oli, choke the vapor!
I'm on 6mg just like Pete. I think you need to make some lower resistance coils, around 1.5, 'cause if I remember, you prefer something like 2.2-2.4 ohm, right? You'll loose some flavor I think, but the TH will mask the fact that you just dropped the nicotine.
I'm still using my trusty mechanical mod, with Kayfun lite, I don't even touch anything else. Tabaco flavor all the way. -
RE: Can I save a rendered picture with transparent background?
You can save the image as png. Also, you have an "alpha chanel" in "VFB channels" tab, which I think is selected by default. If you're good in Photoshop, you can use the alpha channel as mask.

RE: Edges arenΒ΄t smooth when rendered
Antialiasing is in v-ray option editor, under image sampler (antialiasing). Change the filter to Catmull Rom (this is the sharpest one).
I guess you have jagged edges mostly in bright areas. If so, you could also check the "Clamp output" and "Sub-pixel mapping" in Color mapping tab.PS: It's OK to ask allot of questions; that means you're really interested and motivated.
This is always a good sign, and trust me, the only way you should take, when dealing with a beast, such is V-ray.
Good luck! -
RE: Image sampler/antialiasing
As you can see, this effect appear only in very bright areas. Be sure to have clamp output and sub-pixel mapping checked. It helps.

RE: A few renders.(updated)
Very nice work! The second one reminds me of Free Agent stuff.
Maybe it's the sky...
