    • RE: How do I find a problematic Sketchup Material?

I had a similar problem where I are getting this message every time I tried to save: "*** Problems were found that could not be fixed! *** The name for CMaterial (290526) is not valid". It would still let me save the file though. I was able to solve the problem by opening the materials window and hovering over each material to look at the name. I found 3 materials that somehow had blank names. After renaming those materials the problem went away.

I don't know how those blank named materials got there in the first place though, I tried to recreate the problem but SketchUp won't let you name a material with a blank name.

    • Append to Multiple Layers

      Hey guys,

I organize my layers in SketchUp using a naming convention to keep things manageable and in the order I want.

      Ex:
      Car 01 - Body
      Car 01 - Wheels
      Car 01 - Graphics
      Car 02 - Body
      Car 02 - Wheels
      ...

Does anyone know of a plugin that I could use to replace or append a word to the beginning of multiple layers at once?

So select a bunch of layers and replace 'Car 02' for 'Car 03'. Or even just append something to the beginning so I could redo my naming to be A, AA, AAA, etc.

In the above example each car only has 3 sub-criteria but in my actual model each one has about 15, so every time I want to copy a car in order to then add variations I need to go through manually and rename at least 15 layers.

      Any tips much appreciated

    • RE: Select all same components?

I often want to do this with text—to select all the call-outs that I've added at the same time in order to transfer them to a new layer. There's a bit of an indirect way built-in to SketchUp to do this:
Window > Model Info > Select All Leader Text > Close dialog box and do what you want with the selection
This is built in so that you can change the font on all your text at the same time.

    • RE: Right-click to "Orbit" & Middle-click to "Pan"

It is possible to set your mouse's right-click as something else other than 'context-click' (bring up the menu). Here's how:
On a mac you can invoke the context-click menu by holding 'control' and then clicking.
To remap your right-click mouse button you can use a third-party software called SteerMouse. You make an application-specific remapping (so that it only remaps it in SketchUp) to a keyboard shortcut. In your example you would set the keyboard shortcut to 'o' which is the default SketchUp keyboard shortcut to invoke the orbit tool

    • RE: How do you make a multiple hinged component?

Prokrastinator, your solution is the best one I've seen so far on anywhere on the net. Can you explain how your solution works? All of the rotations are linked to a counter so they keep moving until the counter reaches a certain point?
