I just checked out Podium -if I'm reading this correctly, there are even plugins for plugins (e.g., omnigrid for podium) lol, is that correct?

RE: ? about wireframe effect
lol, ok, I think I actually downloaded code from his site, not a plugin. What am I trying to do? Nothing in particular, just get up to speed with all of this really fast.

RE: ? about wireframe effect
Thanks, Massimo! So again, it seems it's not a true wireframe, just a model with a wireframe affect. Wonder what the purpose of that is, just aesthetics?

RE: ? about wireframe effect
Thanks, I will do that! BTW, I just loaded Thom Thom but can't open it ...Windows doesn't recognize what program should be used ... what am I overlooking? Sorry for all the questions! I'm new to plugins.

RE: ? about wireframe effect
Another question -so is that car not a true wireframe model, just a model with curved lines added to it with Thom Thom? I guess you can't do a wireframe model in free SketchUp? Can one be done with Pro?

RE: ? about wireframe effect
Rich, I cross-posted -ok, so K. works as well with the free version of SketchUp, then, as do most plugins? Ok, thanks!

RE: ? about wireframe effect
Thx for the response, ok, so it IS done with a plug-in, then (Thom Thom). About Kerythea, I understand it's free for everyone, but does it work well with the free version of SketchUp? I was under the impression that it, along with most plugins, just work with the Pro version.

? about wireframe effect
i found the above model in the Warehouse. How is that wireframe effect made? It's not just a view, because it shows up as "shaded with textures" in face style, and the wireframe view makes it even more complicated. Was a plugin used for it?
And about plugins -are they mostly for the Pro version, or are there good ones for the free version? Does Kerkythea only work with Pro?

RE: Window component won't copy
Ok, so just copying different instances for different walls is the correct way to do it without a plug-in. Thanks, and thanks for the great video!

RE: Window component won't copy
Thanks for the responses. I think I was copying it incorrectly (not putting it exactly on the face), because now it's working. But now I have another question. I can only copy it to the same wall. Is there a way to unglue it and glue it to another wall? The glue option is grayed out, so I guess I'm answering my question. I tried changing its axis, but that didn't work well for me, either. This is a window component that I downloaded from within SketchUp, by going to the little house icon and selecting "architectural."

Window component won't copy
I downloaded a window component from the warehouse and put it on a house. When I tried to copy this component, however, just the window frame copied; it didn't cut a hole in the wall. I got the flashing faces. Do I have to download the component multiple times to have multiple copies of it?

RE: Solid block becomes a space w/ a window component -why?
Oh I see, ok, thanks for the explanation!

RE: Solid block becomes a space w/ a window component -why?
lol about her looking sad. thx for the explanation about the faces -i do understand it conceptually. i just find it odd that when i cut a hole with a non-component, i see a solid block instead of a space. of course, i'm not sure what else it should look like...

RE: Solid block becomes a space w/ a window component -why?
Thanks for the responses! To clarify, I drew a rectangle, then push/pulled it into a block. Then I cut a simple hole in it. Looking through the hole, the figure is "stuck" inside the solid block; i just see her upper half..

I erased the hole and replaced it with a window component. Looking inside the window, I now see a room-like space and the whole figure; she's not stuck in a block.

What is the explanation for this?

Solid block becomes a space w/ a window component -why?
When I draw a rectangle and push/pull it up, it's a solid block. Cutting an opening in it gives me an opening through the block. However, when I put a window component in it, I can see through the window into the block as though the block is an open space. Know what I mean? Can anyone explain the theory of why this is to me? Thanks!

RE: Rotating opposite doors
BTW, it doesn't seem like I have a file uploading option. Do you have to have a certain # of posts before you can do that?
-
RE: Rotating opposite doors
Oh, that's the secret! No, I had just selected them; I didn't put them in edit mode.
So I put one in "edit component" mode, selected it in its entirety, then rotated. Yep, they both opened opposite each other. Thanks!
-
RE: Rotating opposite doors
They're not nested together. I've redone this multiple times ...I make one door a component, copy it, flip it, move it back... I can select and rotate each door individually, and they rotate correctly, but not together.
re the case, yes, i probably did mess it up during one my umpteen redos.

RE: Rotating opposite doors
hi pilou, thanks for the file, but i'm trying to understand why mine won't work. here's a screenshot of what it does. i want the doors to open OPPOSITE each other, like in that video.

RE: Rotating opposite doors
Pilou -thanks ...but i DID copy and then flip. And like I said, when I edit one door, the other edits as mirror, so that at least works. But I can't get them to rotate opposite each other. They stick together in the middle and rotate the same direction.
