Window component won't copy
-
I downloaded a window component from the warehouse and put it on a house. When I tried to copy this component, however, just the window frame copied; it didn't cut a hole in the wall. I got the flashing faces. Do I have to download the component multiple times to have multiple copies of it?

Rose, a component may be badly modelled for several reasons. Can you post the link?
In any case, if it is a component really, it must be in your model. Open the component browser and find it under the "In model" tab. You can always drag and place it into the model several times from there.

If you insert a second instance of the window-component from the 'Component Browser' model-pane does it then cut an opening?
How are you 'copying' the window-component?
If you use Move+Ctrl and pick the two points on the same wall face [not on the component itself] then the new copy should 'glue' and 'cut' as expected [this is of course assuming that it has a 'cutting-behavior' and that you haven't manually added a hole in the wall which won't magically copy !].
BUT if you use Edit>Copy then Edit>Paste the copied window-component will be attached to the cursor by its bounding-box minimum point - because this is likely not to be the component's insertion-point it then won't attached to a clicked-on wall-face using the correct point - so it's left 'floating' in space and it's not 'glued' to a wall-face at all ! -
Thanks for the responses. I think I was copying it incorrectly (not putting it exactly on the face), because now it's working. But now I have another question. I can only copy it to the same wall. Is there a way to unglue it and glue it to another wall? The glue option is grayed out, so I guess I'm answering my question. I tried changing its axis, but that didn't work well for me, either. This is a window component that I downloaded from within SketchUp, by going to the little house icon and selecting "architectural."

Don't change its axes - these are critical to how it glues/cuts a face.
There are several tools that 're-glue' components onto faces, IF they are located on a face appropriately. I have published one [reglue?], a similar tool also part of my HolePunch toolset, and I know thomthom has also made one... -
Gluing is important for (also) cutting the hole. They go hand-in-hand. You can unglue a component (group) from the plane it's glued to but there's no "native" way to glue it back onto either the same or another plane.
The "normal" workflow i that you insert a component on one wall, maybe copy it as many times as you need it on that wall and insert a new instance from the component browser onto another wall (then can also copy on it...).
As TIG said, there are some re-glue plugins (ThomThom also has one - see video below)) but in this case, the above is the simplest way of doing it.

Ok, so just copying different instances for different walls is the correct way to do it without a plug-in. Thanks, and thanks for the great video!
