Thanks, I finally got it to work (and Cotty's second suggestion worked for me, too). I am just wondering why I can't rotate it and have 360 show up like in the video.

RE: Radial Array
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I understand there are work-arounds. However, on this video:
at .45 he rotates the item and it shows 360 in the VCB from rotating, not typing. Yet I can't get it to do that.
Anyhow, about typing -Jean, when do I type 360? I've tried doing it at various points in the operation and none work. I'm able to overtype the angle shown in the VCB, but still, nothing happens. And I am pressing ENTER afterwards.

Radial Array
I'm trying to array a rectangle around a circle 12 times to make a clock. I'm following instructions I've found about rotating the rectangle around the circle and clicking when I see 360 in the value control box. However, the angle goes from 353, 354, 355...and then ZERO when i get to the top. I can't seem to type 360 in, either, it doesn't take. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? I'm not inadvertently moving the rectangle a bit to the left or right, thus starting the rotation over. It just sets to 0 when I do a complete 360.
Thx for any insight!

RE: ? about styles
Sorgesu, thanks for the explanation! I am going to implement that.

RE: Importing files from other models
I understand I can import any material into my model. What I did in this case was download a model from the Warehouse. It has some materials I'd like to use in my own models. Is there a way to export them from that model to my computer desktop? Otherwise, as I posted, the only way I can figure out how to get them in my model is by importing that whole model into mine. Which is ok, but it leaves me with a lot of layers and stuff to purge.

RE: ? about styles
Thanks for the responses! I had thought that scenes were just temporary views from which I could hit a button and get back to my modeling preferences, but apparently they "set" the screen and need to be reset.

? about styles
I've saved scenes with different styles in each one. When I view a scene, the model takes on that style, and I have to manually change the style back to the default one that I prefer to work with -go to the styles window, click on the right collection, search for the default style...
Is there an easier way to get back to the style you prefer modeling with after viewing a scene that has a different style attached?
Thanks.

Importing files from other models
How can I import a material from one sketchup file into another? I know that I can import an entire file into another, but that gives me every material that model has, which I don't want. I just want one.
I've tried copying/pasting a face painted with the desired material from File 1 to 2, but just the geometry comes in, not the material.
Thanks for any insight.

RE: Flashing planes preventing textures and colors from showing
Yes, that does answer it, thanks! I had already figured out about raising the floor a bit, but erasing the portion underneath it works even better. Will try what you suggested about the walls.

Flashing planes preventing textures and colors from showing
I am overlaying walls so I can color them differently and set up scenes for a design presentation. However, I get the "flashing" problem. That is, a purple wall over a red wall will flash purple and red. I can't get each wall to show up its respective color for different scenes. Same thing when I put a house on a piece from google earth. The interior floors flash with the images of google earth, so I can't texture them with carpet or tile and have just those textures show up. Suggestions?

RE: Copying a toolbar?
Hey all, thanks for the responses. I had wanted the section cut symbols in both toolbars because I was using them a lot, but they were covered with multiple open boxes on my screen. I guess I need to learn how to manage those open boxes better and arrange them so they don't take up so much of the screen and obscure the toolbars.
Dave -the large tool set in your screenshot has the section symbol, just not the two icons for toggling the cuts and planes on and off.

Copying a toolbar?
Is there a way to copy tools from the large toolset to the standard toolbar? For instance, I'd like to have the section toolbar -the symbol and both cutting plane icons- on both the large toolset and the stand toolbar. I can MOVE it to the standard toolbar, but the two section plane icons won't appear on both bars at the same time. Suggestions?

RE: Photomatching
I understand that MatchPhoto is recreating a perspective drawing, but once you put those orange and green bars on the photo's parallel features, seems to me that IS recreating it; it finds the vanishing points from those bars. Well, I'll do more photomatches with other photos and see if it still works.
I've deleted the problem files! Argh ...when it happens again I'll upload. Thanks!

RE: Photomatching
Thanks, Gaieus and pbacot! A couple more questions -
The video says don't use cropped photos. I've used cropped photos and they seem to work fine ...what is the problem with them?
A more general question. Sometimes when I'm trying to attach two pieces together in a model, I have great difficulty. The smaller piece won't snap to the larger. I move it closer and closer, but there's always some distance between them; I can't just snap them together. When I finally do manage to snap them together, the smaller piece acts "wonky" - that is, I can only snap an edge of it to the larger piece and can't intersect them. Other times I have absolutely no problem manipulating the two pieces. Is this something that you've experienced, and if so, any thoughts as to what's happening?

RE: Photomatching
I just copied the roof and wall textures, rotated them and stuck them on the other sides. The "flip along axis" doesn't show up in the context menu, so I had to rotate. Not sure if this is what I'm "supposed" to do, but for a symmetrical building it works. Of course, I don't have a proper back; it looks just like the front.
-
RE: Photomatching
Thanks, pbacot. I have watched photomatching videos, but none I've seen discuss photomatching the rest of the building. Could you clarify what you mean by tying it into the first axis?

Photomatching
I've been playing around with photomatching exteriors of buildings. When you photomatch from one photo, of course just two sides of the building, and half the roof, get textured. How do you complete the un-photomatched part? Do you bring in a second photo and then repeat the process exactly on the model you just photomatched? If so, seems like taking a "symmetrical" pair of photos would be difficult. Maybe mirror the first photo in Photoshop, if the building looks the same on the other side -would that work?
eta -I mirrored the photo and tried to follow the same steps, but it didn't work, just made a mess on the first model. It projected the textures on the same surfaces. Any thoughts?
