Great Project!!
Ok,, now where do I buy a "ticket" I want to go for a ride even if its just around the rail yard.

Sir,,
Not to throw cold water upon a great effort, but it seems to me that the handrail running the length of the loco, needs some supporting posts.
I truely enjoy your work and hope you continue.

I've got to chime in on this one. The book by Dennis Fukai, "3D Construction" is excellent! It is a couple of years old, but that in no way diminishes the impact of the book. If one wants to learn Sketchup this is one of the best ways. This book not only teaches the "program, or software", but also teaches one how to approach the problem of designing and building a project. That is, the methodology is as, if not more important than knowing which tool to use to get which effect on the screen.
I also want to say that not only is the book an outstanding resource, Dennis is a prince of a man. I was having a little trouble with the videos included with the book, and so I emailed him for help. He bent over backwards to get things straightened out, (it was a combination of factors which caused the trouble, and I wouldn't have solved the problem without his help.)

It seems to me the decision should be made on the reality of the situation. Your model would help clarify things. As to whether the idea is good or bad would then be up to the folks directly impacted.
I tend to not favor NIMBY arguements, but I would think all the factors should be known.

Hmm, this wouldn't help me very much as I "can't even wave goodbye with my left hand " but it looks like a pretty cool technology coming along.

I'm from the old forum, but I was very new there when all of this came about and never posted. In fact I had only been using Sketchup-pro Ver.5 about a month when Ver.6 came out. I only used the free version for about two weeks before I figured I ought to support this software and company so though I am using "Pro", I am but a very new hand at this.
I have posted twice now, and feel like I should introduce myself. My name is Steve Mackelprang so now you understand why I go by rollin'. Actually rollin45, which is a screen name I have used for many years starting out on AOL when you paid by the minute once over a certain number of minutes per month.
I don't actually use Sketchup for "work", in that I'm a pipefitter/welder and have been for 30 some odd years. I do however enjoy building things and Sketchup is the best thing going for drawing my ideas prior to actually building them. I've tried any number of CAD programs, but it seems I can actually build something faster than I can draw it with the majority of them. Sketchup is a delight to use and I am learning a great deal from you folks. I thank you all for sharing your expertise so freely!!
I generally don't have a great deal to say as I find I learn a whole lot more when I'm listening than when I'm talking, but I may toss in my pennies worth on occasion if I think I can contribute.
I'll go sit in the corner now, but again thanks to all.

About four months ago I had a motherboard melt down on me. Since the whole system was getting a bit long in the tooth, I built a totally new system and reinstalled XP from the discs I had from the old system. I didn't have any trouble in any way.
I had been upgrading the old system right along and had replaced everything but the motherboard at least once, I guess I finally upgraded it to death.
The service packs and auto-updates came right from Big Bill the Bazillionaire.

It's a shame, but I notice this offer has been cancelled.

Outstanding explanation!!
Clears up a lot of things for me as well. Thank you for the time and effort.

Wow!!
Coen, do you use that software? I just read through the spec's on it, and if it does what they claim it is amazing stuff. I'm curious as to whether it lives up to it's "billing?"

I am reading this with interest, and your techniques are way over my head. I have helped in the construction of one of these slides, though it wasn't a water slide. On this one, the slider (or is it the slidee?) rode a little four wheeled car down the track. As you can imagine a lot of speed was possible, and to keep the rider from being thrown out of the track, the outside radius of the curves is the raised side. In other words, the opening is not square with the world, but instead curves in such a manner that the "centrifugal" force tries to push you through the bottom of the track. As you round a radius, you raise up vertically into the side of the track, so in effect the side of the track becomes the surface the car is riding upon.
I'm not sure if this helps, or if I have offended by pointing out something everyone already is aware of.
I am just mentioning this as the sketch shows the opposite, wherein the inside radius appears to be higher than the outside.
