    • RE: People components

Sorry TIG. I am working with SketchUp 8 under Windows XP.
Your Tools Collection now appears under the Tools Menu.
I tried it and it works great. The component recieves shaduw too.
What I do not understand is how to let the component face the camera and to project shadow.
EDIT: That problem has been solved too.
      Thanks,

      Rob

      Hi, TIG.
      Thanks for your help.
I placed your tool set in the plugin folder, but when starting SketchUp 8 and opening the plugin Menu it is invisible. Also the rbz extension is unknown to me.
      What did I do wrong?

      Thanks,

      Rob

    • RE: People components

      Hi, that works fine.
There is one problem to be solved:
When the component is de-selected there remains the outline of the image, placing a rectangle around the component.
I do not know how to get rid of it.

      Thanks,

      Rob

    • People components

Hi, does anyone know (or is there a tutorial) how to create people components based on photographs of people with a pixel-free background?
      Thanks in advance,

    • RE: Placing a model in a photograph.

      Thanks Solo,

I also found some other video's with "Compositing a model with Photo Match".
It turned out, that the possibility of hiding the pgotograph has disappeared in SketchUp 8, so I had to save the file as version 6 and go on working on it in this older version, which worked fine.
      Thanks for your help,

    • Placing a model in a photograph.

Hi, I have to make an architectural rendering of a building filling a gap between two existing buildings.
I made a pgotograph of the situation. In Vue and Strata3D I could use this photo as a background, enabling me to move the model ( and camera) in such a way that it corresponds with the perspective of the photograph.
Is this possible in SketchUp 8 or is there a trick to get the model fit for using it in the photograph?

      Thanks in advance,

      Rob

    • RE: Introducing myself...with some pics!

      Welcome, Derek.
      An impressive collection of models!
There is one thing I am missing: Light and shadow. It would make your scenes even more realistic and make the volumes stand out more.

    • RE: Guide lines in SketchUp 8

      Thanks Dave.
What a good explanation. I will try it right away.
EDIT: So I did, and found out that the line color was solid black! After comparing both versions I saw that the guide lines in SketchUp 8 were thinner than in 6.
I do not know if that can be changed. At least I did not find where I could change that.

    • Guide lines in SketchUp 8

Hi. I upgraded from 6 to 8 and it works fine, except for one thing:
In 6 the tape measure tool gives a clearly visible black guide line.
In 8 it has become a greyish guideline, which - because my eyes are very bad - is almost impossible for me to see when the object has already materials attached to it.
I have to switch to a plain white presentation in order to see them a little better.
Is there a way to influence the appearance of the guide lines in SKP 8?

      Thanks in advance,

      Rob

    • RE: Hide sandbox gridlines

      Thanks for your replies.
Afterwards I found out what was wrong: I had to select the terrain first and then apply smooth edges. I did not see anything about selecting first in the manual, but - anyway - it works now.
      Thanks,

      Rob

    • Hide sandbox gridlines

Hi, no doubt a newbie question: I am experimenting with the sandbox from scratch system.
With the smoove tool I modeled the terrain.
Now I went to WINDOW and clicked Smooth edges. I get the impression nothing happens and a dialogue box appears which is greyed out.
My major question is: How do I get rid of the grid lines of the terrain to get a nice smooth shape?

      Thanks in advance,

      Rob

    • 3D export

Hi, I desperately wanted to export a model as Acad DWG or DXF, but the free version only supports Google Earth.
Does anyone know if the Pro version makes this possible?
      Thanks,

      Rob

Hi, do you have the sandbox tools? If not you need to download it and use the drape tool. Google: 'how to use the drape tool in sketchup" In utube they have how to download and use the drape tool in sandbox

Thanks. That is a good idea.

    • Solid Tools stay greyed out

Hi, I created two solids by push pulling a square. Selected them and turned each into a group. Object properties says they are solids. I moved one a bit into the other to subtract them, but the solid tools ( except for the first one) stay grey.
      What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
