Just two things, correct me if I'm wrong:

      • Groups also have component definitions
      • Curves and ArcCruves are edges
        ๐Ÿ˜‰

Groups are found in the ComponentDefinitions, but you can't (necessarily/natively) call group.definition. However, copies of a group will act like instances until they are made unique (meaning that if you change one via ruby, all will change). You can make them unique by manually editing them or by calling group.make_unique (ruby will yell at you that it's a deprecated method, but it's absolutely necessary until this bug is fixed).

Curves and ArcCurves are not edges. They are comprised of edges, but a curve is not an edge. That's why you have curve.edges (to get the edges that comprise the curve) and edge.curve (to get the curve of which that edge is a part).

      Hope that clarifies things...

    • RE: "Repaint.rb" gone? Anything similar?

You need to go to Smustard to get the current version. Didier was linking back to Smustard for all our scripts, but I guess that one escaped notice.

The version at RLD is older, and has bugs that have since been fixed.

I just realized who RickW is... er, does that mean that the RLD version is not legit? I'm confused.

The original version of Repaint predates Smustard and was released on the SketchUp-hosted forums. When Smustard was formed, I updated several of the older forum-released scripts to fix bugs, add features, and generally make them a bit better.

The RLD version is the forum-released version. It's "legit", but outdated. Since I provide support for my scripts, I generally like everyone to have the most recent version possible so I'm not trying to troubleshoot a problem I already fixed ๐Ÿ˜„

If you want to use the RLD version, that's fine, but be aware that I'll suggest you update if you run into problems.

So I saw this thread and spend half an hour playing with building a WebDialog progress bar.

What I planned to do was have a Javascript driven animated progress bar and a simple call from Ruby to update the percentage.

The html/js is trivial but I came unstuck because the WebDialog stops when Ruby runs. Now I don't understand because I supposed that the browser would be running in separate native thread.

Somebody mentioned they'd experimented earlier with this and failed. Was this the same issue?

      Adam

Yes, same issue. Scott Lininger is aware of the problem.

    • RE: Idea for plugin: Bump Map From Geometry

I just did a quick test. Results:

      1. You don't get any resulting entities passed when exploding an image. Workaround: add the image to a disposable group, explode the image inside the group, then explode the group and collect the results (exploding a group or instance does return results).

      2. The exploded image will be projected (as expected - duplicates the manual behavior)

So, scripting this is good to go. All I would add is creating a new "Bump Map" style and a "Bump Map" orthagonal top-down scene tab with that style applied.

Insert it at Model bounds min Z rather than zero - otherwise weird effects ?

That's true. I did make a bad assumption that models don't go below zero, and that's just not necessarily true. I'll adjust my instructions. ๐Ÿ˜„

EDIT: One also needs to adjust the shadow settings: Either turn on shadows or turn on "Use sun for shading", and set both the light & dark sliders to 100. It also helps to use noon on 3/21 (or 9/21) at a location near the equator.

    • RE: Idea for plugin: Bump Map From Geometry

A non-ruby workaround (and perhaps the functional basis for the ruby script) would be to have a graded image (black to white) that you insert into your model in the XZ or YZ plane, at the model's lowest Z point.

Scale it so the height of the image is the max height of your model, then scale it again to 1.001 (to make sure any flat faces at the top of the model are white).

When you explode the image, the resulting texture is set to "projected". You can then eyedropper the texture and paint it onto your model for a perfect grayscale heightfield indicator.

Go to a non-perspective orthagonal view and export the image, then crop it in your photo editor.

    • RE: 'Scene manager' plugin

      It's possible, but complex.

I have some scene management tools at Smustard (do a search for "page"), but haven't had the time to get them all packaged together into a single, unified scene tool.

    • RE: !Help Please

Organizer is just trying to load the .rb files it finds in the subfolders of your Plugins menu.

The usual fix is to explicitly exclude subfolders that are created by other plugins. You can do this by adding the subfolder's name to the "SmustardOrganizerExcludeFolders.txt" file. If that doesn't fix it, contact me at Smustard and we'll troubleshoot it.

So, Obama is a "Bad Guy" because he is taking steps to solve the greatest financial crisis seen in America since the Great Depression. Wow.

Yeah, and Adolf took steps to solve Germany's financial crisis. He succeeded in not only improving Germany's economy, but reinvigorating some national pride that had been lost. Unfortunately, things got a bit worse after that.

Now, before someone flips out from reading too much into my comment, I'm not saying Obama is Hitler. I'm saying an ideologue will take advantage of a bad situation to further his agenda. The most cunning power grabs begin with "legitimacy", then move away from legitimacy using a crisis as justification. You complained about Bush doing that, yet you gave Obama a pass - that's called a double-standard.

No, we have no cause to be proud of that.

You missed the point. I wasn't saying McCain would have been better, I was saying the libs' reaction to McCain would have been more pronounced had he done what Obama is doing.

And let's not forget the topic of this thread: Our European brethren, for the most part, like Obama. Even if it doesn't "fix all the problems" immediately, at least it "opens a door" again for US European foreign relations instead of having it "slammed shut" like it was with Bush...

We have many allies that have been alienated over the past 8 years, but Obama's not the only one who could have helped restore those relationships. It's great if he does, but improving relations doesn't excuse poor domestic policy.

um, he was a conservative so he would'nt [sic] represent the 'WE' in your statement, so maybe you should say "Myself and similarly right wing conservatives need another ex actor like the last one" and maybe you can get the constitution changed and have the 'Terminator' step up to the plate.

First, "we" means the country, not liberal or conservative. Second, your tired old "ex-actor" remark is just plain ridiculous. Finally, Schwarzenegger is no conservative. I don't want him in office any more than I want Obama.

      @solo said:

And according to the April 2nd ratings 69 % of Americans like him and wanna keep him, however his wife seems a little more popular than him at the moment it seems.

First, the polls are skewed. Torture the statistics enough, and they'll confess to anything. Second, I'll reiterate - I'm surprised that so many people are okay with his unconstitutional power grabs. If you want to use poll data, try this one on: he's the most divisive president in the last 30 years. So much for his "bipartisan" tone (code for "join our side in doing it our way").

    • RE: Obama is a BIG hit over here in Europe!

Mike, I consider you a friend, so I humbly ask you to please forgive my little rant here in your thread.

I, for one, cannot be proud that Obama was elected. He has unconstitutionally wrested control of the auto industry, he is eyeing significant unconstitutional control of the banking sector, and an unconstitutional takeover of the healthcare sector is likely next. These area all consistent with his agenda of increased government bloat. The only question is whether the energy sector will be targeted before or after healthcare.

The government has absolutely no right to dictate the operations of the business world as it is now doing. It also has no business bailing out companies left and right, but that's another (albeit related) issue.

I'm not surprised that he is using an engineered financial crisis to propagate his agenda, but I'm surprised that so many people are okay with that - epecially considering the inevitably disatrous results of the stupid carbon cap-and-trade energy tax proposal.

And how about that lame AIG stunt? You know, sign off on the bill your cronies wrote that included all those bonuses, then blame AIG for paying the bonuses the bill required, claiming you didn't know it was written into the bill? Classic politicking, and people are falling for it. Either that, or he didn't read before he signed - a really dumb move for an Ivy-league law school grad.

Had it been McCain instead of Obama, certain segments of the population would be rioting in the streets. But since it's their poster-child for their agenda, it's all sunshine and roses. I'm just relieved he's managed to renege on some of his campaign promises already.

We need a real president - it's been 20 years since the last decent one, and probably another 25 before that. I know they can't all be great, but that's just too long between. So far the only good thing I've seen from Obama is how well he reads his teleprompter - but the message leaves a lot to be desired.
