    • RE: Copy along path tweak

Yes, it has been asked πŸ˜„ I believe it was in the context of roller coaster design, and the request was for banking curves or something of that nature.

There are many ways to rotate something along a curve. Can you post an illustration of how you would like to see it done?

    • RE: Material with coloured or distorted texture

On #1, do you want to see if a user has altered the color of the texture, or simply if there's a texture being used? If you want to find an altered-color texture, your suggested solution won't work. face.material.color always equals face.material.texture.average_color, where there is a texture applied to the face. What you could do is create a new material by querying the filename of the attached texture, then compare the average color of the face to the average color of the new material.

I'll have to do some research on #2...

      @didier bur said:

I don't agree with Rick, openurl is not restricted to internet links.
      One can write: UI.openURL("file://" + the_file_to_open)
The system then uses the registry to launch the correct app.
You can also write UI.openURL("c:\test.exe"), this will launch the programm "test"
I guess you could do it also on Mac, but there are no registry and extensions on it...
I don't know if you can add parameters to the command 😳
      Regards,

I didn't say you couldn't open an app, I said you couldn't use parameters. πŸ˜„
Just because something can be done doesn't mean it was intended. So, because the method accepts an URL (even a local one), and because URLs don't have parameters, then it won't work for what is being attempted (even though opening an app without using parameters will work).

    • RE: UI.openURL(executable + params)

It appears that because UI.openURL is designed to open an internet address, it doesn't accept parameters (which don't exist in internet addresses).

I modded my "GroupByMaterials" plugin to group by materials and put the group on a layer named for the relevant material. The new plugin is called (surprise) "LayerByMaterial" (unless there's a consensus for "LayerGroupByMaterial") and will soon be available at Smustard.

      Fletch,

How can I resist such a request? πŸ˜„ I'll put it on the list, and hopefully it will be faster than some other projects I've been working on - maybe even this weekend (though I'm not promising anything).

    • RE: ImageProfile script now available

No, you understand my comment, at least as much as I said. I think, though, that most people will opt for the pay-per-use because the fixed-price would be very high (relative to other Smustard plugins) because of the reasons outlined in my previous post.

If I can get the processing off the server, I can offer a fixed-price plugin license. Until then, it's pay per use. πŸ˜„

    • ImageProfile script now available

The ImageProfile plugin is now available.

      Some notes about its use:

      1. This only works with SketchUp 6 on PC. It will not work with previous versions of SketchUp, and there are problems on the Mac version of SketchUp 6 with the transfer of data from webDialogs to ruby. When those are fixed, it should work fine.

      2. It requires the purchase of processing credits (currently on sale for $1.00 per image). You purchase one or more credits which are banked on our server for you. When you use ImageProfile, it deducts a credit. The credits do not expire, so you can purchase now and use any time. Only unused credits can be refunded.

      3. Use transparent PNG images only! PNG images with a white background should work, but don't count on it. Other file formats might work, but are officially unsupported. Don't waste credits on non-PNG images.

      4. The more complex an image, the longer it will take. Many images will only take 2-3 minutes from upload to saved component. Images with a lot of perimeter will take slightly longer than images with less perimeter. Images with lots of transparent cutout areas or with slightly detached "island" color areas will take more time, sometimes up to 20 minutes. Start with simpler images, if you have them, and see how they work before trying very complex images.

      5. The size of an image only affects upload time, which will also be dependent on your internet connection speed.

      6. If an image doesn't trace properly, try adjusting the accuracy setting up or down one level. You do get a second chance when things don't go as planned, if you don't wait too long (same day at GMT-8).

      7. Start with a BLANK MODEL - no geometry! Any geometry can interfere with the tracing process and cause unexpected (and undesired) results. Once the image is uploaded and processed, the data will be transferred to Sketchup, where the outline is created and the image is applied to the face. The model is then saved as a file to be inserted into other models. The model will have face-me attributes as requested.

      8. Contact me through Smustard if you have problems with the script.

      Happy profiling!

    • RE: Conifer image

      Ian,

Nice image for using ImageProfile πŸ˜„

I can agree with the previous comments that the high-accuracy outline might be unnecessary, and using a lower-accuracy outline would save some model weight and still give good enough shadows for SketchUp.

As for the "FaceMe" option - the script saves the image and its profile as a .skp file in the same folder as the original image. If you insert that .skp file into a model, it should exhibit the FaceMe behavior. If you edit the .skp, you will not see FaceMe behavior. This is because the file saved is intended to be inserted as a component, and it is the model itself (not the stuff in the model) that has the FaceMe behavior. It is like other FaceMe components in that regard. Hope that makes sense.

    • RE: Animation Presention Bundle 2

Wow, those are some seriously long transition times. If you're working with a large site model, I'd suggest something along the lines of 10-20m/s for motion speed. Of course, it all depends on whether you want fly-by, drive-by, or walk-by speed, and the physical size of the site/campus.

As it is, you can use the multiplier. Select all scenes, use 1/5 as your multiplier, then click the "Apply to Selected TT", then click "Save Changes". That will speed things up considerably.

The Transition Time is a time in seconds that it takes to transition from one scene to the following scene. Your TT of 80 seconds for scene 1 is a LONG TIME. That's why I suggested using 1/5 for your multiplier - it will yield a 16 second TT (and other selected scenes will also be reduced by 80%).

      Hope that helps...

    • RE: Preparing for SmustardOrganizer script
      1. Well, I think it's up to the individual user, but I created the following folders:
      • Cameras-Pages
      • Draw-Create
      • Edit-Modify
      • Export-Import
      • Selection
      • Textures-Materials
There are items not in folders, but I think the majority are categorized.
      1. The annotation part is the key. I could try to create something like that, but my guess is that it would be rather "iffy". For Smustard scripts, a quick trip to MySmustard (via the Smustard Toolbar) will give you a synopsis of the last script version you downloaded, compared to the version currently available.

      2. I think it's still controlled loosely by SU and/or the OS. Organzier could load things alphabetically by sorting the directory list before loading, but that's about the extent of it. It would be possible to create a text file that indicates the order to load scripts, but I think that would be prone to problems if things got moved or deleted. I'll think about how that might be implemented and see if it could be workable.

    • RE: Preparing for SmustardOrganizer script

You can add a folder name to the SmustardOrganizerExcludeFolders.txt file, and that folder will not be loaded. Or you can add "--" to the front of a folder name and it will not load. This way, you can prevent the metric and imperial from both loading - just exclude the one you don't want to use. When you need to switch, change the excluded folder and restart Sketchup.

While it is possible to add the whole plugins menu to the context menu, it won't be immediately available with Organizer, but perhaps in a future version I will add that.

    • RE: Preparing for SmustardOrganizer script

I put the file into a subfolder. It loaded without problems, and it works correctly. I'm not sure why you are gettting the error messages. Is the script in two folders (like Plugins AND 10 French)? Make sure there are no duplicate scripts.

    • RE: Preparing for SmustardOrganizer script

When you download new scripts, they will have to be modified to work with Organizer. The organizerEdit script only looks in the Plugins folder for scripts to edit (so that things that have been edited and organized aren't re-examined).

So download to the Plugins folder, perform the auto edit, then organize and restart Sketchup.

I didn't look too carefully at the stair script, just added the appropriate menu lines. It looks like the script has other issues, and unfortunately I don't have time right now to troubleshoot it. Sorry...
