    • RE: Confused with Image Perspective

Hi - I did not use match photo but imported it as an image. Actually I did what I needed to do for the client in photoshop and now re-doing it in SU to practice. I thought this is a good house to learn on.

I did not think of scaling the porch since the house was scaled. I guess any part of the house that is not flat with the siding such as the eaves and porch will need separate scaling.

If I had an angled photo and used match photo, would that solve the problem?
I would think that accurate scaling would be a problem with an angled photo too.

    • Confused with Image Perspective

      Hi:
Attached is a photo and a sketchup file. I brought the image into sketchup and pulled out the porch to 7 feet. The post is located at the corner of the porch (left). When I pull out the porch roof beam (architrave) it should rest on the center of the post.

As you see it is way off. I am thinking this has to do with perspective but really can't figure out how this is happening and what if anything I can do. I scaled the house to 36' long. The porch should be 25' but it's not.

      thanks

      this is the photo

one more problem. I have new lattice for under the porch. I did the same with that image - exploded and deleted all but the lattice. I then imported it into the main file with the house. I am not able to take that section and place it on top of the image - it only goes behind it.

    • RE: Match photo axes?

I am working on a job for someone out of state. Normally I do architectural design in photoshop and autocad but SU can really help. If I ask the client for an angled photo then the other work I did would be out of wack.

Not sure I understand what you mean about exploding the image to apply it to the box.

So if I bring it in as an image, I can trace the outline of the front. I guess then I would use the push-pull to make it more of a box so I can rotate it and then copy the image on the front of the box (house). I can then construct a railing and balusters on the porch. Does this sound right?

Here is the house pic. Do you think I can use one of the floor board on the porch?

    • Match photo axes?

Hi - I am in the process of learning SU.

I have a photo of the front of a house. There is no side view to adjust for perspective. Is is still possible to use the match photo function and line it up?

I need to add a porch to the house in SU and will need to rotate it to do the porch.

      Thanks,ken
