Thanks Dave-- I think I'll revert to the old, tried and true method of hatching by hand
on the print: won't take much time and it'll look fine.

RE: New Pattern Fill feature in Layout
In a similar vein, in Layout 2013, my pattern fills seems to become grey (lighter in value) the smaller they are rendered. For example, I'm importing a .bmp that's 425 x 283 at 120KB and in my Layout file, into a section detail that is 3" = 1'-0" scale, the pattern (hatch) is barely visible while viewing the page at full size. Should the pattern fills (all of them exhibit this including the default patterns) be black and white, not grey? Unless I set the pattern scale to 1.0x or higher, it can't be seen. And in details, many patterns need to be scaled down to .25 or lower to be seen. I guess the next step is to create my own, smaller, finer, greater resolution patterns... Am I missing something?

RE: Guide Lines disappear
Hello, This issue hasn't been resolved as far as I can tell. I wonder if it's related to video cards. I'll take a look around here and see if there's another thread.
Oh, and I also have the issue of guidelines disappearing as I'm trying to apply them--
eg. I click on a rectangle with the tape measure tool, pull it in a direction, then type 2.71875 (2 23/32") and the guideline goes off into the ether. Where did it go?As for the more common issue of guidelines disappearing once there are in place, sometimes rotating your view helps, as does decreasing your depth of field with the magnifying tool.
My wager is we might see more sages try to offer solutions, Trimble might just fix it in another release (Google could not), and we'll never really know until it does actually work.
EDIT 8.25.13 Getting great support and feedback so far from Trimble-- and 2013 seems to be more stable than 8. Still some bugs to work out but it's getting better.

RE: Does Trimble listen...?
Hey guys, Patrick at Trimble sent me a phone number to call since I wasn't able to proceed to the payment page for 2013... and now the number is listed as non-working.
Any ideas? 303-546-1100 didn't work on a few tries...
Of course the more I read here about the new release the more suspect I become...Edit-
Got an email back from P saying to call the number... let's see what happens tomorrow. -
RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
Hello,
I'm new to SketchUcation and I've been using SU Pro for about three years.
I'm an interior designer and casual architect and I also enjoy furniture design, landscape design, industrial design, the fine arts, etc..
A few of you may recognize me from my previous posts to the Help Forum and my occasional frustrations with SU; fortunately, with help from more experienced users as well as my tenacity to try to figure things out, my SU use has been very gratifying.
I currently use SU nearly every day and have had great success utilizing Layout to create construction documents. The benefit I've derived from SU has been immense and whenever I show an architect, designer, engineer, tradesperson, technician or co-worker the intended design (walk-though and rotate), they say, "Wow, that's a really useful tool!"
I look forward to catching up on my reading here and I promise I'll try to not be frustrated online when I encounter something I think SU should be able to do, or do with more effectiveness.

RE: Guide Lines disappear
Good news! I found that my video card needed an updated driver and that I was using a prior release SU-- seems as though I'd downloaded the update file but had not yet run it.
The guidelines seem to remain in place and I can create them without them disappearing although sometimes I still need to adjust the magnification in order to see them as I zoom in.
