RE: Can you help test my new website?
Yea sorry but Full screen is a no no, A full screen window could be hiding another window behind it doing nasty's, don't get me wrong I trust you, but years of experience have taught me to be wary or such things.
It also makes it obvious to my colleges and more importantly my boss that I'm not working

RE: Can you help test my new website?
As soon as it went full screen I closed it without looking at the contents.
Users find it rude (to say the least) for a web site to decide how big their web browser should be, what buttons or lack of, are visible etc. My first reaction was "What's is it hiding behind that".As per Jackson, on the first page the items on the right where off screen.
As for the looks, they seemed fine and dandy.

RE: Flashing Shadows
It happens when you(the camera) passes under an object that is casting a shadow, or to put it another way, its when the camera passes through the shadow of another object.
If its a street scene then try and set the sun/shadows so that there's an 'unshadowed' section of road you can travel along.
If your going from the outside of a building to the inside then export the first section (outside) with the shadows on then export the second section (inside) with the shadows off. If you overlap the exports (Scene 1-5, Scenes 4-10) you can blend them in Adobe Premiere elements or similar.
Neither are solutions but as work around's go their OK.

RE: Cluster Nuts
Thanks all, its nice to be back.
Hey Kris, my ass has been to hospital, but that's another story

Don't worry about me loosing my brain, cluster headaches are a known thing much like migraines but with different symptoms, they come in 2 flavours chronic and episodic. The chronic ones are 3,4,5,6 etc a day, every day!! Luckily I have the episodic variety where I get 1 a day for 6-10 days then nothing for 12-18 months. If it wasn't for the magic drugs I have (Imigram and Zomig) then this would be a very very different post and would be being made by my wife or other family member....Get my drift...
Have a read of a couple of the example on this page and you may get an idea
http://www.clusterheadaches.com/But this batch is over and all is well again.
P.S. Was watching a Mythbusters repeat on Discovery and they were using Sketchup to design stuff for one of their tests. I think it was the one about the WWII airman who fell through a glass train station roof just as a bomb went off and it cushioned his fall.
P.P.S.
Is this anyone we know:

Cluster Nuts
Hello all,
I’ve been absent for a while (well absent from here anyway) due to a batch of cluster headaches. I get them about every 12-18 months and this lot have lasted a bit longer than usual.
For those that are interested they are like a migraine on steroids that occur at roughly the same time of the day in the same part of the head every day for a while, in my case over the right eye at about 1-3am for 5 weeks. I gave up going to sleep before 3am as it enabled me to catch the headache as it started as opposed to it waking me up in full flow.
As you will appreciate this has left me some what knackered during the day and it been all I can do just to go to work let alone do some!Myself and SHMBO are just back from 2 weeks hols with the first week in the south west of Ireland (Kenmere) and the second knocking around at home, whilst I’m not quite 100% I’m certainly a hell of a lot better than I was 3 weeks go.
I looked in a couple of times and on one occasion there was 14 pages of new posts!! Let me say that again FOURTEEN PAGES, wow. I tried to read them all but a combination of painkillers and lethargy put paid to that idea! So I’m sure that I’ve missed an awful lot.
If there are any key posts I should look at from the past 4-5 weeks could you point me to them….. thanks
It makes me very proud to be a member here, to the point that I feel a slight sense of guilt that I ‘abandoned’ this place for so long.
I was going to rewrite the above sentence but it go me thinking - Isn’t it amazing that in an incredibly short time we’ve built (or revived a dying) community that can invoke such a feeling? Well done to all.
It’s nice to be back.

RE: .avi Trouble
Try a check disk:
from the command prompt type CHKDSK X: /F where X: is the drive you want to checkThe '/F' switch will fix any bad sectors, omit it, and it will find but not fix them.
It will take a while on a big disk and if you perform it on
it will require a reboot but its worth a go. -
RE: .avi Trouble
I'm guessing that the file that contains the thumbnail images of the avi's (thumbs.db) is corrupted.
Change the folder view from filmstrip/thumbnail to list or detail and see if you can get in the folder.
If this solves your problem then all you've got to do is delete all the thumbs.db files in all the offending folders, Windows will recreate one as soon as you enter a folder that's in filmstrip or thumbnail mode.
Hope this helps

RE: Fantastic News
We (Or more rightly my wife) got a date to go and see Queeny at Buck house, its the 13th December.
We could fly but as there will be 5 of us and it being so close to Xmas we're going to drive instead. Apparently if your comming by car you can drive straight into the palace grounds so I suppose I have to get the Touareg cleaned! So the great search for a hat begins.......

RE: Fantastic News
Hi its Suzie here
Thank you all sincerly for all your kind messages,I was ok about accepting the honour because it was in recognition of my voluntary service to social housing in Northern Ireland and not the "day job" as CEO of a social enterprise which works to promote social inclusion in employment. The fact that I am married to a super-geek has its distinct advantages especially when I require a persuasive powerpoint presentation or that cutting-edge 3d model that just gets the men in grey suits on my side!
I was very low-key about it until my excited little grandaughter told her teacher that she was going to London to see the Queen in her big castle and would be bringing her Grannie's medal in for "show and tell". Thanks again everyone.PS Paul is right about the shopping trip but as well as the dress, coat, hat bag shoes etal I have my eye on a certain little longer-lasting memento of circa 2 carats

Fantastic News
About 3 weeks ago my wife received a letter from the office of the Prime Minister asking her a question, It required a yes or no answer, she replied yes.
The letter stated that she was not to tell anybody the nature of the letter until 12:01 on the 16th June 2007.
So as its well past midnight and its now the 16th I can VERY proudly tell you that my wife received an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours.
http://www.honours.gov.uk/upload/assets/www.honours.gov.uk/queens_birthday_list2007.pdf
Top of Page 83For those of you that come from outside 'This Sceptred Isle' here's a Wiki link to MBE's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_of_the_Order_of_the_British_EmpireNeedless to say I'm absolutely chuffed and its been very difficult to keep my mouth shut for the past 3 weeks. She's not to sure about it purely on the basis that it shines a light on her that she'd prefer to be pointing as someone else! but I'm sure she deserves it, and knowing her colleagues and associates I know they're sure.
She doesn't know when, but sometime in the next 6 months or so she'll be off to London to meet the Queen, for those of you that are married men you will appreciate that my next 6 months are going to be an endless round of clothes shops and arquard questions so there is a downside to all of this!

RE: Politics Forum....
I wish I could write the words that come out my mouth or I say in my head but I have never been able too, and I therefore never participate in a 'serious' thread because I can never express in print what I truly feel or I end up unintentionally offending people by miss-expressing what I'm trying to say.
BUT I do read them (to a point)
I was about to delete the above because I couldn't think of the words to finish it but doing that would only be my own self fulfilling prophecy based on what I'd just written!
So I'll leave it at that.

RE: Networking Problem
Its a good chance that as its a laptop, Vista is powering down the network adapter if it thinks its not being used.
Did a search in google (vista power network disconnect) and found the following:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/33307acf-0698-41ba-b014-ea0a2eb8d0a81033.mspx#EAMAC
5th one in the list: "I get disconnected from my network periodically"http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-215154.php

Hope this helps, sorry I didn't see your post earlier.

RE: Haven't posted anything in a while....
Couple of ideas:
Try making the glass a dark blue colour instead of the white.Make the Tarmac darker, I've got the pavement darker than the road as the road get a lot more traffic/wear.
Shove in as much to break up the uniformity, in my case: lamp posts, bus stops, phone boxes, traffic lights, road signs etc. and place them unevenly.
Add 'things' where walls meet floors. You could hide the junction with a hedge or change the bottom 3,4,5,6 brick courses to a different stock etc. For internal views I add a 15mmx150mm skirting board to all rooms, it makes a world of difference to the perception.
If you've got any wall on the site, add some steps to their height to break up their profile and make the shadows more interesting. You only need to step up the wall 150mm and then back down again elsewhere.
Hope this helps

RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
To be honest I only did it for 2 reasons, 1 to see if I could, and 2 to check how well it lines up with the model.
Once I tilt the view in iso or perspective it looks terrible as nothing lines up due to the fact that the road rises about 10m over its length.but.....
your right.

RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
What I did was switch off terrain, zoom in on an area and print screen, switch to PS, paste it, back to GE pan over a bit and repeat the process.
Then in PS, crop off all but the map, move the bits around so that they line up and export as a jpeg.I can get areas as big as I want this way.
Hope this helps
