Is there any way to download a huge component packet like they used to have on SU

I did the new version and every time i want components it calls up online, if I cannot connect to the internet, I basically cannot use the program,

Also the plants that I see, suck, they are not 20 percent of what I used to have access to,

basically the new setup with the way you access the components is terrible, and the components available are not near as good of choices as the huge component packs they used to have

any way to download those old component packs. Is there some place someone has stored them or would be willing to share them

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

It might not have been 40 for the stones, but it was considerably more than 10 for each of the textures. and I downloaded this with the standard free SU 5 or 6 and then had to download the components packs separately,

I know when I used to go into the textures it was enough textures for each surface to have to scroll down the choices with the scrollbar, and you certainly do not have to scroll down anything with only 10 choices

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

I did not spend 500 on sketchup, i only downloaded the "pro" versions to see if they have the components in them, or the paintbucket surfaces........They dont

I have always used the free versions and been very happy with them, but now my opinion is the free and pro versions are extremely lame, without the surfaces and components so hard to find and download

If you saw some of my designs you might think i was a professional, but those took a LONG time to bang out, but i still saved them all

I thoroughly enjoy SU and puttering around with it designing my next house me and my wife want to build here in the Phils

Just do what the rest of us do.

Scour the internet for pre made textures. We have links to many sites containing these right here at SCF.
Join Formfonts and download a fantastic collection of components and textures.
      Make your own.

There is no magic answer to help you fill your collection instantly. You have to put in the effort and create them. Most people here will have been building their libraries over years.

when you go to this formfonts, and download components and textures, what location do you download them to, on your hard drive.
I have no problem doing this if just told how to proceed, and thanks by the way for the information

ops after looking, i guess that place you recommended charges almost 200 dollars a year for a membership,
I just do this when I am bored for a hobby, I am not a professional
too rich for my blood but thanks very much

    • RE: Question regarding textures

cant you sample the texture and then it would be in your textures and you could just use it like that

do other textures work when you try to use them on this surface that is not flat, or is it just this one particular one that doesnt work that you import

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

i did not purposely delete them, i reformatted and wiped the hard drive and that lost all the old installs

truly sad you have to go through so much pain in the butt just to get the components and surfaces nowadays, even with the pro versions

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

They might have more functionality, the pro versions but what good are they without the component libraries"

Yes i downloaded the component library after you or someone else gave them to me and I somehow managed to get them somewhat working, in 7, but the interface is not user friendly, and it is difficult to navigate

i still never got the paintbucket to have the full choices, despite a few days of trying to find it and someone sending me the zip file, which was not much help

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

You download the "PRO" version of sketchup 7, you expect a fully functional 30 day trial to get you interested to buy the expensive 500 dollar version

what you get is no better than the free version, the Components library is not there, it has a bunch of cheap samples

same with the Pro version of 6

not only that, the paintbucket surfaces are not there, only 10 choices there as opposed to the fully stocked version which has about 40 choices for each surface

Pardon me for saying this , but whoever took over sketchup, has no clue how to market the thing, and taking out the component libraries and saying they moved them to the warehouse was a very dumb move.

All in all I have spent about 2 weeks trying to get the thing working, as I had the old FREE version working, with no luck. and that includes asking on the board for help.

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

Thanks TIG, i am trying to insert them into the appropriate folder after i download them..

upon looking in the folders, there appears to be only 10 choices in each of the subcategories in the zip file you loaded, example. stone......10 choices

this is the same number of choices i have now

when i had this before, the stone had like 40 choices

where is this archive to download
not to say your zip is not appreciated but it appears to be the same choices I have now, the limited 10 choices per category

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

      I have versions 6 and 7
version 6 does NOT have lots more for the paintbucket tool
it has exactly the same stripped down version of this tool that 7 does, and both these are "pro" versions

so where are these tools we are supposed to transfer?

    • RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?

So I still have no answer where to get the tools paintbucket surfaces etc
they are not in 6, 6 has the same even in the PRO version that 7 does

are they in the free version of 6?
This really is a big pain, when i reformatted , i used to download the sketchup current free version even, the component library link was there, and it installed in a flash, and the tools..paintbucket was there too

now even in the "PRO" Versions, they all suck, the component library has been moved to warehouse...........which is impossible to download or you get about 10 useless components, or a sample...........and the paintbucket is a sucky stripped down version

now you would think that the trial versions of the "PRO" Would be loaded with everything from the start, but they suck just as bad as the free versions

      all in all pathetic

    • RE: Google SketchUp User Happiness Survey

They need to include that british guys lighting plugin that costs 150 bucks to buy it separately
things like that would make people WANT to pay for the PRO version

as it stands now the PRO version does not even have the components pack installed
what kind of value is that?

I cant find the free sketchuup 6 i was using,
      so i downloaded 6 Pro

      that doesnt help at all
it has the same stripped down paintbucket as 7 does, so where exactly are you supposed to get this to transfer it to 7?

    • Tools-----Paintbucket?

I have managed to download the component libraries, which was not easy to find these, and not easy to figure out how to get them to work,

Even on Sketchup Pro 7 though, the Tools Paintbucket, seems to come with an extremely stripped down version from what I was easily able to access with even Sketchup 6 free version.

Why is this? and how to get the larger archive of choices like I had before

      Hi Thanks
I am trying with 7 now
I downloaded into the program but what is the exact path?

      F:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Components

is that where I install the
      files?

    • RE: Components Problems

      Thank you very much
I am trying to move them all to that location now

Quick question, will this work with Sketchup 7
The component download link you gave me is for Sketchup 6, and I have now downloaded 7, since it is the latest version. Would I have to delete 7 and Reinstall 6?

      Edit.
This does not seem to show up in 7 at all , even when i put the downloads in the components folder in the Program files. So I am now deleting 7 , completely., downloading 6 and trying to install that, and will attempt to merge these files into the components folder to see if that works. If It does great. All that happens in 7 is, there is really no interface similar to 6 at all, even when i merge these, and if I go to ....Landscape, and hit that. it goes to Warehouse and attempts to redownload those short list of files, Thats it.

Yes, that's what Thom means. From your component browser, you should be able to download "collections" (of about a dozen of models a time) beside individual models.

I don't mean we like this - this is just the case for now. However AFAIK the component collections (as well as textures) will be available some time in the future for bulk download. They may just not be "ready" yet (these "bonus packs" have always been added later than the main app.released).

Sigh... I won't go back to delete all the above but here are the "bonus packs" for SU 6 I have just found (surprisingly easily on the new SU.Google site). Download and enjoy (before the link disappears in this rapidly changing world) 😉

hey great thanks a million i went and downloaded all of those
      to a folder
Now how do I merge them into my sketchup components
