    • Three dimensional figures

Oh great masters of the sketchup medium,

Cast your knowing cursors toward my lowly query,

I am trying to intersect a three dimensional figure with a series of parallel lines. Think of it as making a old fashioned beaded curtain. But the beads would only be at the intersection of the outline of the figure.

I created my curtain. Easy. I imported a three dimensional figure from a creative commons free use .3ds file of a human. But when I ask the computer to intersect them. I get the dreaded whirling beach ball pie plate thing.

I guess the figure itself has too many poly planes. Are there simpler 3 dimensional human models out there? Preferably posable.

I don't need loads of detail because the curtain lines are two inches apart. But vaguely realistic muscles would help.

Or is there a way to reduce the polys on the figure I have?

      Why beach ball? Why?

      Fullmer rules!

      Seriously.

We could erect a sketchup statue.

    • Bend it like...

      Hello all,

I am trying to get the 3d text to bend to a round wall. I want it to look like big brass letters attached to a curve. Does anybody know how to bend a group of objects to a curve?

I tried using the "drop" ruby from smustard. I put the text over a cylinder and dropped the letters one by one. Then, I had to rotate them each. The effect was less than satisfactory and time consuming.

I know somebody has had to but letters on a wall before. What did you do?

      Thanks,

    • RE: Scale printing for cheapskates

      Thanks yall.

I ended up doing something like that-- creating a page size.

I ran into a different problem though. When I wanted to print preview it, it went wonky. I went back to the file and it was stretched and weird. I closed out and re opened. Anyone else have print preview go buggy on them?

      Thanks for the replies.

I can't use the Doublecad because I am on a MAC.

As for the typical scale printing, it limits the paper size to the printer you are using.

Or as far as I can manage it.

Thank you so much for helping though!

I don't have the pro version. I can't afford it.

But, I need to print out a large scale print out. Larger than my dinky printer can manage.

I am hoping that I can do something that can be printed out at Kinko's. I am talking about a 36" x 96" print out at 1"=1" scale. They would like it in PDF. When I try to "save as pdf" it wants to break the thing down into 52 pages.

      Aaaigh.

    • RE: Elevation points for construction

      that sounds awesome.

When I clicked the link it showed me the script. Do I copy and paste that somewhere or is it available in a downloadable form?

I haven't gotten into writing my own stuff, yet. So, my knowledge is limited to surfing, downloading and installing rubies and plug-ins.

      Thanks.

I am trying to put the notes on the thing and at the moment not really happy with how the "from contours" came out. So, I am tweaking. From now until...

      I think you did it!

      Thank you.

I knew it was out there, somewhere.
