After introducing a 64-bit version of SketchUp last fall, our team began researching ways to make SketchUp even more simple and intuitive to use than it is today. We combed through every inch of SketchUp’s user interface, and what we found surprised us.

It turns out that to leap forward, we first had to look backwards to an earlier stage in computational geometry. There is still a lot of development work in front of us, but we hope you’ll be inspired by this preview of SketchUp’s new “Adventure Mode.” We certainly are.

We (SketchUp in collaboration with SketchThis) recently launched an open-source design project called Maker Bench http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2015/02/ready-set-maker-bench.html, and I’m posting to see if some of you would like to help us evolve the design.

We’re hosting an design discussion http://forums.sketchup.com/t/open-maker-bench-challenge/7066 on the SketchUp forum that we hope you’ll join. You can submit an idea for the bench or a module, or even download our base models and mess around for yourself.

Our goal is to move on from conceptual design to as-built model by mid-April, and then build a few prototypes for Maker Faire Bay Area (May 16-17).I hope you’ll take a few minutes and have a closer look at this Maker Bench project.
