A good, large 4K TV is over $1000. A really good one is $2000-$3000.
I wouldn’t buy a bigger TV, but I’d happily buy another VR for my girlfriend for films. Just a better experience and cheaper.
The resolution on TVs is getting to the point where you won’t even notice the difference as it increases unless you have a 100” screen (and who is going to splash $20,000 on a TV when VR gives you a cinema experience?)
The best, most revolutionary thing about using VR in a workflow or gaming is the activity factor.
You are moving all the time. Even when sat down you are significantly more active than behind a PC. I sweat when gaming! You use your whole body, it’s beautifully ergonomic. When drawing it feels real, natural, human!
It also makes me laugh because a whole generation of gamers have been locked indoors button bashing....they can’t compete with grown men in VR games. It’s so funny. Their bodies are weak, I love it. Tables have turned, no more 12 year old kids embarrassing you in first person shooters! I’ve been training! Lolol
It actually encourages you to be fitter and stronger. When has a computer or games console ever done that?
Another thing that is worth considering about a VR.....
Say for example you want a nice big TV to watch movies on. 60” OLED screen costs over $2000.
You can literally just buy the family a few quests; it’s cheaper and you are now looking at 50 foot cinema screens. Don’t have to fight for the best sofa and viewing angle lol
I don’t think I would ever buy a large TV again. Just have a normal one for watching news etc, background TV and then use VR for all movies.
This is gonna be a revolution in entertainment.

Yes it’s being worked on right now. Wireless VR is definitely the future. The sales speak volume.
Less hardware in the VR headset would make them lighter and more comfortable too. I’m all for it!
It has to be said that using the Quest in “Developer Mode” unlocks its potential.
It basically allows you to side load any android app (most work fine) and PC based VR games.
I downloaded a previous Netflix APK from APKMIRROR and I can download straight into my quest for offline viewing on planes etc.
Yes all rendering will be done by the cloud.
Console gaming is finished IMO. Stadia/cloud rendering is definitely the future. You don’t even need a console, it’s like Netflix but for 4K games. Just download the app and go.
Just let google render everything for you.
The Quest is then essentially just a window into remote hardware.

I get motion sickness from crazy quick movement in fast paced shooter games. But I learned a trick where you close one eye for a minute, it goes away lol. Pro gamer tips!! I only get this once every couple of days. It’s like a disorientation feeling that quickly passes.

Erm I was up til 6am for several nights playing with this mate!!! Took headset off and it’s daylight!
But in all seriousness I can comfortably do 2-3 hours watching a film, no problem at all.
It doesn’t even feel the screen is close to your face, like I said, genuinely feels like a cinema (and you can pick where you want to sit)

I plug earphones in and go into my VR world lol. She’s watching garbage on a 42” TV, I’m sat in my own private cinema looking at educational things.
Another thing that’s crazy....you can setup a virtual mesh or “guardian” around you. You can do this sat down or stood up. You can do 99% of VR stuff sat down BTW. You only need to stand for involving shooting games etc.
Anyway, when you step outside of this virtual mesh, you seamlessly enter back into the “real world” by way of the front facing cameras! So you can actually step out of your VR bubble, make a brew and come back. All with the headset still on!! You’d have to see it to believe it. It’s like military technology at consumer level now.
It’s super freaky and amazing!

Yes Pilou. You can mirror your PC screen to the quest and do anything you want. It’s called Virtual Desktop app for quest. Works great. You can even stream your PC to a public cinema and random people from around the world can watch what you are watching on your PC screen!!! Or invite friends for a cinema night.

Recently I’ve become so incredibly bored with what is essentially button bashing on a 2D screen. There is no involvement, no innovation, no fun. They’ve succeeded in making gaming boring. I played Sea of Thieves for 12 months, I help people do quests and dig treasure up for an hour or so......and then simply throw it all in the water to wind them up. That’s how boring it is! Lol
Anyway 1 minute into Quest. Sold.
No it’s not Battlefield graphics, it’s mainly unreal engine stuff. But wow. Have you ever dual wielded guns, have one pointed at different doors while ducking behind a crate and looking behind you? It’s impossible on Xbox with a controller.
In Pavlov, you don’t press X to reload. You drop you magazine, place another in, cock your gun and raise it to your face! Imagine that in a tense gunfight!!!
It’s not the graphics that amaze me in games.....it’s the sheer involvement. I must be using a hundred times more calories than regular gaming/entertainment.
VR poker is so funny. People point guns at you, smoke cigars, drink beer, throw footballs, stand up and threaten you face to face lolol......genuinely funny gaming. The only downside is people doing that stupid floss dance and dabbing in VR lol
Are they android based? If not then no.
If you want powerhouse for complex work,, of course go for Rift.
For sketchup complexity, quest all day long. It’s important to consider that this Quest is more powerful than the 10 year old dual core iMac that I have done 99% of my 3D work on. It’s the rendering where you need big power.
The quest is rumoured to have outsold all other VR units combined....in one month. Sold out everywhere here. So no guessing where all the support, development and money is going in the future.

Hey Pete. Yes the massive advantage of the quest is untethered. 4K OLED screen too.
How people use VR attached to a computer I’ll never know! I play FPS games like Pavlov and Paintball so being untethered is a game changer. In 5 years there probably won’t be any wired VR kits; the same way corded house phones all but vanished.
It’s brilliant. I can download films and take it on a plane etc. Can take it to meetings. No PC required. Take it to friends house easily. I am astounded by how good films look. I had a PSVR and it wasn’t very good, used it twice.

In Big Screen, YouTube or Netflix it genuinely feels like you are looking at a private cinema screen, absolutely no eye strain at all. You can watch 3D films in a VR cinema with other people around the world. It’s crazy. It’s a PC stuck to your face. Mind. blown.

You can also CAST WHAT YOU ARE SEEING IN VR TO A CHROMECAST OR CELLPHONE!
So when I’m painting (or trolling people in games), other people in the room can see it on the TV!
Here is my first ever go on Google Tilt Brush. Just did a quick island with volcanos etc.
No instructions, tutorials. Just started painting in the air....in 3D....in VR! It’s magic!
I can walk around my living room painting a jungle with a stream running through haha!
Can even import models and starts painting them! You can even paint with light it’s mind blowing!

Yes I’ve just tested it on the free online sketchup.
It works great! It said it’s not optimised for my browser but worked perfectly.
I push/pulled in VR! What a time to be alive guys!

Also if you export your SU model into any android based 3D viewer, you can go full VR mode and walk through like you’re actually there. 
You can even export to unity and then upload to Altspace so people around the world can meet up and walk around your models together. Fascinating and super geeky!

You can install any android app via the SideQuest software.
You can also use a browser like normal so I think the online sketchup will work.
I’ll give it a go later! When the free version of sketchup moved online I simply never used it again lol
