RE: Vray- very basic material problem
why not just do 3dmax and Vray. rather than importing the max file to sketchup.

RE: (Solved) Problem with reflections
flipping work also as long as the positive side is painted. If you dont paint the negative side the texture will be reflected as ling as you have the correct side. Now to ensure that the sides are correct then use the monochrome. if you are lazy to do that, then paint both sides.

RE: (Solved) Problem with reflections
yeap reverse face. or if you dont want to flip it, be sure the texture is applied in both face. The one that you can see it the reflection is the material on the positive face.

RE: Vray for sketchup render and save individual frames

Rendering Challenge
We would like to invite the whole community to join us in our October Challenge
SVA October Challenge. Download the beautiful Gothic church made by AL Klagge aka "klog" and join Sketchup Vray artists group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/101003083314401/Thank you very much KLOG.
You can download his model here: No material http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40864073/8%20Gothic%20Cathedral.skp
And here is the Choir and Nave area which does not have the which doesn't have the North and South porch facades but light enough to be used in Sketchup. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40864073small8%20Gothic%20nave%20and%20choir.skpAlthough the name of the Facebook group is Sketchup Vray artists, users use different rendering engine here. It so happened that when we start with the group it was only an interest group for Filipinos using sketchup and vray. We did not realized that the group becomes big. In anyhow, I think its nice to see different rendering engine to be used again on this challenge.
This were the September challenge Winners. Barcelona Pavilion.. http://sketchupvrayresources.blogspot.com/2011/10/sva-competetion-winners.html
Posting here too. http://sketchupvrayresources.blogspot.com/2011/10/sva-october-challenge.html

Or rather it's like going for shopping with a wife; eventually you end up with a bunch of things you would have never thought you needed them.

Nice!!!
About renders: These are peaceful environments, I could live there. Though rather a chaos in my home LOL, dogs etc. But not really.
You could try some SSS on this plant. And a smaller sun. Too blurred shadow casting from the sun tends to look a bit unnatural in some cases. An emitter could work, but I don't know much about vray. All my knowledge is about Cycles.in vray i think the sun size can make all those shadows sharper. A value of 1 means completely hard shadow. I think I used a value between 3-5 here. I think you are right with those plant. In vray double sided work as fine to give translucency. thanks for that.

RE: What is your favorite Photorealistic Renderer?
my favorite for biased render is Vray, Unbiased is Thea. Quck Lighting study is Light up. In the end you should be the one trying them. Its like going to shopping center with ideas but in the end its the one that fits you that matters.
