I managed to finally get it to work a couple days ago. I thought I'd been installing the latest version, but checking the update thru the Help drop down it was saying there was still newer. I ran that and it hit the COM surrogate issue again. I ended all those instances and tried again and it installed perfectly and has worked just fine the last few days.

Sketchup 2024 taking hours to open/load
I've been having a problem with 2024 (Windows 10) over the last few days where it will open the welcome window with no problem, but when I go to open a new or existing model, it will show a blank white screen with (not responding) in the upper left corner which will persist for hours before it finally loads. Once loaded it seems to work fine, I can even open other models within that same session with no problem, but when that window is closed, it will have the same issue with the next time Sketchup launches, or if I open a second instance that session too will do the same thing.
Last week on Friday I installed the SketchFx 4.0 Demo and tried it out on something for marketing. I didn't notice any other issues that day with Sketchup. When the issue started, since that was the last thing I'd installed, I deleted the plugin and uninstalled it from Sketchup. The problem still persists, so I've uninstalled and reinstalled Sketchup 24 and it's still happening. I've seen a reference to COM Surrogate issues, but ending the task in task manager has had no affect.
I still have previous installs of SU20 thru SU23. I've only tried 23, and it still opens and runs just fine.
Is there anything I'm missing that I should try?

RE: Component Descriptions - SU2024
@Rich-O-Brien
It doesn't seem to recognize that command, not pasting anything that way.Trade off, since I am already setting everything up as a dynamic component, I can add descriptions there, copy and paste into that, then copy and paste from that into the menu and it works fine. at least that saves the external notepad.
In anycase, the description also doesn't show up until you click on the component in the menu like you're going to insert it in the model, then it shows up just fine.

RE: Component Descriptions - SU2024
@Nguice
A coworker is suggesting it may be font related. If we copy and paste directly from our ERP (Netsuite) is doesn't seem to work, but if we copy and paste the description into a notepad which has a standard font, then copy and paste out of that, it does. -
Component Descriptions - SU2024
I'm working in SU 2024 on PC.
We've got a sizeable library of thousands of components we use designing playgrounds. Most of these have been set up as dynamic components with the ability to export materials for sub-components that can then be uploaded into our order entry platform (saves hours of manual entry).
I believe I first experiences this with SU2023, but again in 2024 the description field in our component menu is inconsistently showing our part description OR "no description" regardless of if we enter one. Sometimes it will save the info, others it just doesn't. Out of all our Sketchup users, we're all experiencing this problem, so I suspect it's common.
Is there something we're not doing right or is this just a bug?
I've started including a description field in the dynamic attributes so at least I can export the info there, but it not showing up in the menu itself is frustrating since we have many similar components and don't want to have alter the definition field as that's how our system sees the part numbers.Thanks
