    • RE: [Plugin] SolidSolver

What does 'Form has been intersected' mean?
I click on 'Ok', SolidSolver appears to be still working on the object, SketchUp 'Not Responding', it's been over an hour now. At the time I grouped the object there were over 250,000 entities... probably why. Any thing I can do to the file? SketchUp is using 50+% of CPU...
Wow, it finally finished. Got message 'There are 137 Coplanar Edges. Remove them?'
I answered 'Yes' and SolidSolver said 'Now a solid'. Problem was now almost all of the object was gone... luckily the Undo worked and brought everything back. Now it's just a group in the model again.
The .skp is 15.5MB so I don't think I should try to attach it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Guess I still would like to know the implications...

    • 3D Printers

Can anyone recommend some good 3D printers, from their own experience?
I'm currently using a Dremel 3D20. Not bad because it comes put together and is pretty much ready to print out of the box. I seems to be losing it's accuracy - extruder nozzle bumps the model and if you are doing something that is just standing on legs, like a horse, it can knock the model over... and you end up with a rats nest.

So, I'd like to get some advise from users of other 3D printers.

    • RE: Punching hole(s)

Excellent Plugin Tig! Thanks pilou for the direction... will follow.
Now on to my next problem... Is it possible to move and resize a hole once created?
I see in my top view that the front hole is ~1/64+- off the 3/8 on center that I want it (like the back hole). Or do I just have to redraw/punch new set?
      Strt-Solid-With Holes-TS position holes.skp
I see a slight skew (from perpendicular to curved face) between front & back holes. Something I can, reluctantly, live with-but being a Virgo...

    • RE: Punching hole(s)

Well, after watching that section a number of times, and finally at .25 speed, I was able to make out what was being selected. Did have to search the Knowledge Base to figure out where the 'Display model with globally transparent faces' was coming from... Styles, Default Styles, X-ray.

I don't mean to be too critical of the video - but - wish it was broken into 'chapters' and going a little slower through the steps (mouse clicks, etc.) would make it easier for us old farts to follow ๐Ÿ˜‰ or just don't get old!

Anyway, another hurdle jumped... Thanks to the help in this great forum and the very helpful members ๐Ÿ‘

      Thanks again pilou and others...

PS, I was using Solid Inspector on this model

referencing the hole and the hole grouping (as a nested instance).

    • RE: Not closed surface

Thank you again pilou... because it was caused by my use (miss-use) of VisuHole, I got it from your other post - http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79%26amp;t=65214%26amp;p=598110#p598110

      Thank you.

I'm not up on all the technical jargon yet, i.e., coplanar (I'm looking in up in Wiki), but maybe someone can help and get me up to speed...

      Here is what I have
      Not Closed Surface.jpg

I see what looks like a 'crack'... it seems to be only on the top, I don't see it looking from the bottom, but see something inside the face of the hole...

ya, I know nothing is easy, but maybe it can be fixed?

Just printed it and the hole is filled ๐Ÿ˜ž

You should download and install the Plugin Store from this forum, you'll find all of Fredos great plugins there...
      http://sketchucation.com/resources/plugin-store-download

Ok... did that... and installed the LibFredo6 and VisuHole... and I don't know what is wrong with me but I cannot get it to punch a simple circle (as shown in pilou's post).

When I click the Stencil button and Tab, only the rectangle or hex shape are available.

Sooooo.... what am I doing wrong? ๐Ÿ˜ž

Also, are there other Stencils to add? or can new ones be created and added?

Wow... think I figured it out... I made a circle the size I wanted the hole to be a selected the 'Use Model' option... now it is in the Stencil History... ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I still wrestling with getting the model flat on the grid and aligned with the plans... guess that will be another post... unless my old 68 year old mind can get the hang of this, eventually ๐Ÿ˜†

Looks great...but, being a real Newbie... how do I manually install the plugin?
VisuHole isn't in the Extension Warehouse (know how that works), and I can't find anything in the SketchUp menus...

What can I do next to 'brake apart' the to objects and leave a hole?

moot, Not real sure what's causing your trouble but here's some possible fixes. To zoom in on stuff as I model I just use "orbit" hold the cursor over the object and scroll my middle wheel on my mouse...templates such as "Woodworking-Inches" or "Woodworking-Millimeters" let you work accurately at measurements below 1/16"...

Thanks, works great. I'm using the "Woodworking-Millimeters" template... digital caliper comes in real handy.

SketchUp is so much easier than Autodesk... and the Community is more helpful also...
I'll be upgrading to SketchUp Pro ๐Ÿ˜„

    • Creating very small objects

I am trying to create a half-pipe, .47" inside radius, .85" outside radius, 1.5" length.
How can I get my work-space sized to be able to view small objects?
Zoom seems to move the object out of view and I cannot get Pan to bring it back into view.
Are there size limitations in SketchUp?
Any suggestions of other 3D software that can create very small objects?

      I like SketchUp... but...
