This already solved in your post on the SketchUp Community Forum but for others who come along, Follow Me by itself won't yield the results you're after. You should start with a circular path and scale the bottom to an ellipse.

In this particular case it looks like just a noisemap, wouldn't it work to apply the texture, non-projected, to each face?
