      LOL, Pete
However, this 7-1 spoiled this wonderful worldcup, IMO.
      This wasn't a football game.
I was just watching the faces of the amazing german players. No joy. Not much.
For years, we will still remember this 7-1. Not the final (I hope not)

      But, mike
we have digital photographs now, laptops, Ipads, etc etc
the only you need is a grid.
Or, you just need a projector, right?

Great link Pilou. You were faster than me.
I've watched this video long time now.
David Hockney is a great artist. A pleasure to follow his thoughts.
Long before the use of optics, Dürer sketched this one.

    • RE: Let's build a new 3D software!

      It's all about controlling topology.
There are excellent applications around, maintaining the appropriate control on topology.
Non of them is easy to use. Not a SU like UI, I mean.
Let's face it. The 3d world has it's own rules. It is a virtual reality.
We have to talk using a deferent language.
This becomes a real PITA regarding UserInterface.
A UI is the essence of the code inside an application.
This is the real problem, IMO.
When we are in Pshop, trying for a decent CMYK conversion, we have to understand the language of an offset printer or any other printer. The limitations of the inks.
When we're going for 3d printing, we have to understand how the 3dprinter works.
When we're going for video game assets, once again, we have to understand all about the art of baking nice normal maps. (and much more limitations of the game engines)
When we design for real building, concrete, wood work, etc this we should have in mind.
To create a friendly UI, what does it mean, really?

Most people hate the zbrush UI. I faced the same difficulties when I started learning it.
However, start sculpting, try to handle it using a wacom only. You may think otherwise.

My english don't help me much, sorry.

OK, I know you hate blender.
      You shouldn't.
Similar to Oli's motivations turned me to a blenderhead or something LOL

However, have a look. Fluid designer, based on blender.

Wrap your face in plastic before taking photo that way the final result will look like your head is squished in bottle

Random effects, conceptual art in blender. By instancing.

modeling on top of a dynamic topology sculpting.
You can call it re topology but it isn't exactly so.
This approach just adopts the basic shapes (by snapping) and goes for a more traditional modeling.

The Foundry releases MeshFusion plugin for MODO 701
I'm an old groboto.app owner. These guys took it further.
My best wishes to Darrel and his co developers. They develop it, years now.
Booleans at its best. An expensive plugin but I think many users gonna love it.

      Hey Pilou,
You forgot to mention the cost of this modo plugin. 😆
I'm a groboto owner, years now. Familiar with booleans based on parametric objects.
This plugin goes further but it costs a lot.
      More than MOI.

      However, the tool sounds amazing.
Groboto (the devs of this one) has an interesting and long story.
Glad to see them go further.

      Add a square plane,
TAB for edit mode (or select edit mode from the window bottom menu)
Edit it. Or simply select all vertices by A, delete them and start drawing by click, holding ctrl.
Too complicated? Well, you may find it handy, when you will select a bounce of vertices, or edges, or faces, and by pressing the ctrl+click you will extrude them as you wish.
A different application, different and very effective UI. Extremely logical, if you ask me.

      LOL
      Right you are.
I'm interested on baking normal maps
I did some search, you obviously are aware what normal maps are standing for.
I found some nice maya tutorials.

      🎉
Many ways to skin a cat Pilou.
I would try a different and simpler way for the job.

I wonder, what we could do for a cornice on the ceiling.
      Extrude following a path somehow?
      It can be done.
      But not quite creative.
What about using the inset tool of blender?

What I'm trying to say. Different apps, different workarounds.
