Display Section Planes - RESETTING
Hi just upgraded to 2017 pro from SU 8 pro.
SITUATION:
drawing with 4+ section planes. section planes are active depending on the scene.PROBLEM:
using the section tool bar and clicking the button Display Section Planes - toggle section planes on and off will do exactly what is says, but it will no longer save my selection between scene navigation. When I click on a new scene my section planes are visible again even though I toggled them off. I have had this in the reverse as well. I can't have section planes stay visible when I switch between scenes. This is causing a nightmare for me when I print drawings and all the section planes are visible.(to add more clarity.. the section planes activate correctly and cut my drawings. The section plane "tool" lines and arrows are visible when I want them hidden or vice versa)
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

RE: [Plugin] Make Unique Selected Components v0.4 20110803
Thanks TIG! I will try this out when I get some spare time.

RE: [Plugin] Make Unique Selected Components v0.4 20110803
OK. So for example I draw kitchen cabinets and I have created a library of cabinets that are made up of both components & groups. Sometimes in the design it is easier to just copy over cabinets and then if there is a change I will fredo stretch them. I have found it is very important to go deep into the cabinets layers and make sure everything is unique or else the cabinets will bug splat sketchup or some part wont stretch properly or else it will stretch other cabinets in other places of the kitchen that where a copy of that cabinet at one point. When I use this plug in it does not go deep enough into the layers of my cabinets to make everything unique. Im guessing that it stops and soon as it hits the first group inside the component. So all the other groups and components deeper in still remain "non" unique.

RE: [Plugin] Make Unique Selected Components v0.4 20110803
Any chance you could make a plugin to make unique all selected components AND groups.
That would be the most useful plug-in ever!!!!! with how I work in sketchup. If I could help you or you could explain how I would do it.
Thanks!!

RE: Inserting components from component library
Ok, so the I have solved the problem. It appears the problem was intoduced in sketchup 8. All you have to do
is go "file" , "geo-location" , "clear location". For what ever reason that is what is causing the problem. Clear that and
you are good. Thanks for the response though!

Inserting components from component library
PROBLEM - Components grabbed from the component library are not "inserting" using the component axis (this would allow me to use my mouse and select where i want
to insert the component... the component hovers on the edge of the mouse cursor), instead it either inserts to the drawing axis point or else to where
the component was drawn in the drawing to begin with.INFO - I primarily have all my components drawn in sketchup and save them to the component library to be dropped into a job at a latter date.
I have had all the components drawn and set the axis for every component how i wanted it to drop in and it was working great. However,
I recently updated a few components and drew out a few new ones and it is not referencing the axis of the component for in the insertion point
it is either picking the model axis point or the original location the component was drawn in.I want to have the components drop into a fresh sketchup file (model is purged and there are no copy's of the component in the component model window)
I have noticed that when I drop a component in it will go to the component window model, and then if I click there I can drop it in using the component axis. (component
will hover on end of mouse and I can click insertion point)NOTE: I have some of my components working where from a fresh drawing they will just drop in no problem using the component axis as the insertion point. Then some of the
newer ones I have done using the same methods are not dropping in using the component axis as the insertion point. They are being automatically placed at either the model axis
point or the original location where the components were drawn.NOTE: I have most of my components drop in and use a gluing plane of "Any" and they drop in using the component axis as the insertion point.
NOTE: I do not want to have all of my components "pre loaded" into the model of my blank sketchup drawing. I belive this would solve the problem but I have never had to
do this before and I do not want the size of my files to increase by pre loaded every component into the blank sketchup template.I have been trying to problem solve this with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Printing to height of screen?
Hey, Thanks alot for the reply.
I just tryed out "un maximizing" the screen and adjusting to approx dim i wanted to print at and it does exactly what I wanted it to do.
Great tip!I will try tinkering around in LayOut & Style builder, I have never really had a need to use those. But improved printing quality would be
great to see aswell. -
Printing to height of screen?
*General info:
- I use a wide screen monitor
- I print using letter size both through printer and cutePDF*
So my question is can you print using the height of your screen rather than the width?
Generally with sketchup it will take the screen you see and then scale according to the page format you selected.
This leads to top and bottom strips of nothing. It would be really nice to make use of the entire printed page rather than waste it with blank top & bottom strips. My thought was is there a way to print using the height of your screen and then have sketchup come out to the sides and get the limits
for printing. (cutting off the sides of the drawings that you can currently see) This would allow full page printing and no have any wasted white space.Another though I had was I could change the monitor resolution when im printing... but I really don't want to have to do that.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and come up with any solutions.
Additional thoughts
- I have experimented with printing in legal to PDF and it is getting closer to being the right height (drawing runs to the top & bottom of the page)
but it scales back to the same when printing to letter. - AutoCAD uses a "window" feature to allow you to really get the scale you want, am I missing a similar feature with sketchup?
Thanks alot for any insight into this!

RE: Stretching to an exact dimension (inches)
Thanks for the quick reply's and great advice. It worked when I click the scale command and then click again in the direction i want to stretch it. Then when it almost looks like the command is done you type in the dimension you want to stretch it to. Thanks again!

Stretching to an exact dimension (inches)
The issue I am having at the moment is scaling to an exact dimension using inches ("). I know how to use the scale command and scale to an exact dimension of feet, m, cm or anything else that I would want but the issue is when I try and type (") the inch sign. I have to hit "shift". Shift is also the command in scale to toggle uniform. So by hitting the shift key in order to type in the inch sign it ends up erasing what i have typed in so far for my dimension. This is frustrating to say the least. So far I have tried using On-screen keyboard, programing my keyboard to have " inserted when i hit a certain button and programing my mouse macro insert " I have even tried to locate where to change the toggle uniform key to something different but couldn't find where it was. It doesn't seem normal that I would have to go to this much effort to type this in. Any help would be greatly appreciated
