RE: Pages selection crashes LO
arumaret, I completely agree- LO is becoming a really functional tool for most of the smaller construction doc purposes in our office, (and right now in this economic climate, they're pretty much all smaller!) and when I'm cruising along with it, all is well and life is good, and I have completely forgotten about its 'idiosyncrasies' its always then that it suddenly freaks out and blows up. I still love it, though, and especially because of Google techs like Barry Janzen who are working very hard to get LO to a place as stable as SketchUp--and who really respond to those of us who have seen its uglier side with an amazing amount of input and help!

RE: Pages selection crashes LO
Arumaret,
Check out this topic, http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24320
This same thing has happened to me...by the way, bjanzen, the QA tech at Google, was extremely helpful in salvaging my file. I was really impressed by his doggedness. (In my situation, just attempting to open the LayOut file crashed LO, which initially made the following link of interest: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=5243a803f40e261d&hl=en But didn't work for me because the file was completely screwed up. Another incident involved LO crashing on me when I attempted to open the last page of a 5 page LO file.
Also, I'm interested to find out if Charlie's idea might have worked, and Tim, thanks for your input a while back regarding LayOut idiosyncrasies; you described a duplicate layout problem I was having, and your extremely understated description of your frustration level was perfect. Kind of like a stifled scream...I had to laugh. -
RE: Vanishing Sections in Layout
Hi Orch, thanks for staying on this topic--you have succeeded in verifying for me what it is that I was doing (wrong) every once in a while, (like yesterday!) namely, losing track of the active section plane, especially in models containing a lot of them. And Gai-good tip to check their status before updating, mystery solved.
...And btw, I'm probably the last person standing to have finally found the "Hide in other scenes" plugin. (if there's a better one, I'd love to hear about it...) -
RE: Vanishing Sections in Layout
Jhauswirth,
Thank you very much for your reply to my dilemma--sorry I didn't respond sooner-I was ensnared in a deadline, etc. Okay. I believe your answer is the one true answer. I just want to know when it is that I set myself up for this problem; is it when I am in SU and suddenly decide to change from my normal working style (my own saved one) into, say, the same style but with a white background (also a style that I have saved as my own) and then create a scene for a section with it and then take that section/scene into my existing LO file and try to scale it whereas it reverts to an elevation?? (If you followed that, congrats.) Or is it when you change a scene's style within LO? Or both?
I also remember I ran into the same revert problem when I tried to use the Section-CutFace ruby script, which doesn't seem to work properly in LO at all.( I wish-hope I'm wrong because it's a great script...)
Anyway, your enlightenment is much appreciated.

RE: Vanishing Sections in Layout
Coincidentally, I just opened the Layout section of this forum to search for help with the exact same dilemma as Orchard Collie. Same operating system, same problem--which, I should add, I haven't had in the past. I am a true lover of Layout, but must confess, that pretty habitually, in the process of demonstrating to my colleagues just how absolutely cool it is workflow-wise, inevitably, I hit a snag with a system bug or crash, setting my former speed back to a snail's pace as I work to figure out the current problem. I am about to convert the naysayers, and then wham--lose them to a ridiculous and unexpected glitch.
My latest challenge, after setting up my scenes and sections with their corresponding section layers properly (as I have done in the past), is that suddenly I can't get a proper section to scale in Layout without its reverting to an elevation. Is it perhaps, as Gaieus has mentioned, because I didn't first have elevation scenes created of the sections I cut and created scenes for? I'm trying to remember former workflows where this section problem didn't occur.
I'm so mystified and my colleagues are so thinking Layout is a tad lame...which I am always vehemently disagreeing with. I take them so quickly to a place where they are all going, "Wow", only to hit a wall right at the climax with an infuriating snag.
And btw, might the snow leopard OS which I recently upgraded to, have anything to do with this? -
RE: Make Unique
Ha, Gaieus--Funny that you of all people should ask Remus if he ever sleeps!! Judging by the prolific nature of your own posts, your personal requirement seems to be about 2.5 per night, max!

Damn, Dale, you beat me to it....I was gonna nab that guy!!

RE: Dimensions underneath model window(?!)
Thanks to you all. I had somehow missed the fact that the stacking order of layers controlled visibility. And I liked your layer tips, Eric.

Dimensions underneath model window(?!)
I'm sure it's me, but at seemingly arbitrary times, the visibility of using the new dimension tool in layout disappears under the current sketchup model. I try to send the SU window back with arrange command, but no go, or place the dimensions partly on paper space and try to 'arrange' them forward, no go, dimensions are still underneath. Then just as suddenly, I can use dimension command and all is well. Love the new tool, just wish I could figure out its idiosyncrasies. (Or mine!) Thanks for any enlightenment.

RE: LayOut 2.1 - A warning!!!!
But actually, merci bien a vous, Bert! That's what I was looking for. Cool.

RE: LayOut 2.1 - A warning!!!!
Yes. I'm on a Mac, and will try your recommendation. Makes more sense. Thanks for the input.

RE: LayOut 2.1 - A warning!!!!
Regarding LayOut 2.1 warnings, has anyone found that the old layout templates are suddenly unchangeable? I click on the titleblock entities, and nothing is alterable. Is it just me?
