      1. 64 bit!!!

      2. multi core support! ...the GHz race is over - now we're on the core track (for several years already). or what should we do with the other 31 cores sketchup doesn't use next year?!?

      3. better texturing tools!

      4. better file handling - it's really annoying to have 200mb files that need 5 minutes to load or save... 3dsmax can do it within a few seconds

Those are pretty much the only things I look forward to. Everything else is fluff IMHO.

    • RE: Bad News for Architects in the next ver. of Google Sketchup

I hope they add in 64 bit support as well as multicore support. I could care less if they remove the import export features of the free version. I know that is a massive downgrade but the program is free after all. All you would need is to find a program that can convert dwg -> collada and you would be back in business.

The free version of sketchup has been too good of a deal for far too long. Put it back in it's place in the product line up and maybe they will start to get some more income from sales.

Dunno if this helps, but maybe you can set your rig to work this way or maybe check your GPU settings.

I could not get that method to work with adequate results. While it does seem to speed everything up overall it also makes the program unstable for some reason. I will keep at the problem but I am starting to think that sketchup just will no work properly with my system. I also have no expectations that google will actually implement multi core support or 64 bit support anytime soon.

    • RE: SU8 - WISHLIST

I went from a single core 2.8ghz amd with 1.5gig ram on xp to a quadcore 2.6ghz intel i7 with 12gigs of ram on vista 64.

Sketchup ran a lot better on my older computer.

We NEED 64 support and multiple core support badly. I cant even run sketchup on my current system without 10-15 second pauses every few minutes. If google doesn't try to fix these problems in their next major patch I will be forced to ditch sketchup all together. That will be sad but I cant afford to continue to use antiquated software like this.

    • Medieval Cottage

My first post and I place it in the wrong forum. Let me try this again.

Before I post some pictures I figured I would explain a little about myself. I have owned a professional copy of sketchup since version 5 and followed it closely since before that. I work at an architectural firm and in the past we have used SU for many types of demonstrations. Sadly because I dont own the software that was used to build those models (licensed to my place of work) or the material that was used to create those models I can not post any pictures to them. Well, maybe I can post a pic of a failed condo project?

With the current economic situation where it is we have not gotten anything into the office that we can use sketchup for. In fact we have no plans to update our office software from 6 to 7. I on the other hand upgraded earlier this month and I took some time yesterday to test out the software.

Here is a medieval style cottage. It is actually based off of a modern design by an Australian company who builds timber framed buildings.

Since I wanted to build this whole building using sketchup and not any cadd software I first needed to figure out some dimension for the frame and the internal framing. This led to these concept drawings.

I used these as the basis for a new model.

As you can see the model is still a ways off from being done but since I was only building it to test the software changes I may never get around to finishing it.

Sofar I fail to see the whole point in the Dynamic Components. The windows were actually harder to use than if I would have built them from scratch and made them into unique components. When I changed the glass size in one of the two types of windows I have in the model it changed the glass in the other model. That is not only annoying but unwarranted in my opinion. I can see it's usefulness with building rails or the like but for the most part I think it is only going to get in the way.

Ah well, Anyways I just thought I would share a little and say hello.
