My first post and I place it in the wrong forum. Let me try this again.
Before I post some pictures I figured I would explain a little about myself. I have owned a professional copy of sketchup since version 5 and followed it closely since before that. I work at an architectural firm and in the past we have used SU for many types of demonstrations. Sadly because I dont own the software that was used to build those models (licensed to my place of work) or the material that was used to create those models I can not post any pictures to them. Well, maybe I can post a pic of a failed condo project?
With the current economic situation where it is we have not gotten anything into the office that we can use sketchup for. In fact we have no plans to update our office software from 6 to 7. I on the other hand upgraded earlier this month and I took some time yesterday to test out the software.
Here is a medieval style cottage. It is actually based off of a modern design by an Australian company who builds timber framed buildings.
Since I wanted to build this whole building using sketchup and not any cadd software I first needed to figure out some dimension for the frame and the internal framing. This led to these concept drawings.
I used these as the basis for a new model.
As you can see the model is still a ways off from being done but since I was only building it to test the software changes I may never get around to finishing it.
Sofar I fail to see the whole point in the Dynamic Components. The windows were actually harder to use than if I would have built them from scratch and made them into unique components. When I changed the glass size in one of the two types of windows I have in the model it changed the glass in the other model. That is not only annoying but unwarranted in my opinion. I can see it's usefulness with building rails or the like but for the most part I think it is only going to get in the way.
Ah well, Anyways I just thought I would share a little and say hello.
