I just wish those boxes would splinter when they collided. And the water, it does not react to the boxes at all! What is up with that! ๐Ÿ˜„

Actually i think the crysis engine allows for that. The boxes in game are destructible so i imagine they contain all the code and animations to do it. I think that is something which had been turned off to prevent his (the creator of the video) processor from exploding!

Yeah its cool, but its just too bad that isnt real time on those framerates.

I dont make... any actually, videos using SU and SP. I mainly use SP to randomly scatter stuff about. It would be nice if it didnt take 5 minutes to toss around 200 objects!

you know I really think someone needs to apply that engine to SU. I realize that is not the actual framerates that one would view, but hot damn. That can handle thousands of objects with comparative ease.

Anyone have any suggestions regarding this?
Im far from "good" with Kerkythea, or even at modeling, and am always looking for tips on this stuff.

I suppose Ill take that as a compliment ๐Ÿ˜„
Actually I totally lucked out. I didnt think to make the primer a different color until about 2 seconds before I clicked the export button ๐Ÿ˜ฎ . The primers are silver and while it is a HUGE difference before the render, the end result is really subtle. I was thinking that the global I used (from the hdri globals on the Kerky website) was going to have a lot more stuff in it as I had never used that one before, but it turned out to be a subtle smoke effect.

I think it makes a nice desktop.

Not sure if this is the place for it, but it was 100% made in SU in about 15 minutes using a single (duh) component copied way too many times. After waiting 5 minutes for the animation to run in Sketchy Physics, I cleaned up the geometry I used to scatter the casings around then exported and rendered it. Here it is straight out of Kerky and at full res, 1440x900.

In retrospect I should have centered it properly...but I have to redo it anyways because I used the wrong material for the brass.

EDIT: Anyone who knows guns should notice that those are in no way based on a real round. For one thing, they are far too long. Any round that is that long would have a tapered end to it, because it would be a rifle round. I really doubt any handgun would have 2 inch long .50 cal rounds and for that matter, I really doubt any .50 cal round would only be 2 inches long anyways. ๐Ÿ˜„.

The S&W Model 500 IS a .50 cal, but im sure the casings arent 2 inches long. I could be wrong though.

Can you post the file for us to look at?
Im not sure exactly what you are having a problem with but it sounds like if you are coloring one thing and another thing gets colored as well that the faces are connected. And im sure someone else will ask to see the file as well. You could upload it to the google warehouse and post a link here.

I thought I would hit play because I saw that the ground wasn't much more than the default floor object created with SP. First thing I noticed actually. So off went my mouse hunting for the play button and sure enough the gumdrops flipped.

To be clear, by first movie I meant Batman Begins.
But please dont take it to the extreme that guy did, he has so much batman stuff it is unbelievable. If you are anything like a sane person you wont be able to deal with the junk!

    • RE: For the Batman fans out there!

A guy I met through a friend, and oddly enough now work with, is actually in that movie.
He was in the first movie as an extra. He can be seen running across one of the scenes WAAAY in the background with security chasing him down (he wanted to be in that scene i guess ๐Ÿ˜†), and he was driving one of the black SUVs on the freeway during the big chase scene.

Apparently he managed to get a spot as an extra in this one too. An interesting note about him is that he has the second largest Batman collection in the world, and his son's first and middle name is Bruce Wayne.

If this movie is as good as the first one I will be in line to see it.

    • A very good magic act

Well, I figure some of you may be sitting there hard at work, or some of you are hard at work moving posts, or any one of an endless amount of possibilities. So I thought I would share one of my favorite videos with you guys. This guy has a magic act consisting of a laser show. That sounds boring, but what he does is VERY interesting.

Granted his one trick of "grabbing" the light is, well... easy to figure out, the rest is pretty neat. He does slip up a couple times however, but barring that it is a cool show.

    • RE: Fear of Flying?

That makes sense though. One teacher I had was an English major, but he often would bring interesting things to me to read during my lunch hour, or have some story to tell me about some thing or another. One time he explained to me alot of stuff about how the human brain reacts in isolated situations. The example that he used was the Tom Hanks movie, Cast Away. If left alone long enough, without sufficient stimuli, the human brain will attempt to create its own things to interact with. A form of torture is sensory deprivation for a reason; after a while the victim will begin to see, hear, or feel things that arent there.

Although I do have to admit that I don't want to be on that plane when the pilot suddenly thinks he is no longer in control of the plane. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Have you considered getting the Haynes manual? see link, they normally have very detailed isometric drawings, it might help if you are going to model it.
Hey that isnt a bad idea! I think my uncle has tons of automotive repair manuals laying around so I can just ask him if he has the one for my car. Thanks for the idea ๐Ÿ˜„

On the other hand buying that would be a good idea just to keep in the car since I usually would rather do the repair myself rather than pay a dealership. For example, the dealer wanted $1300 to replace the head gasket, and almost as much for the wiring harness. Well screw that nonsense!
Since the car had been sitting for almost a year the wiring harness was chewed up by squirrels. So in the process of replacing the head gasket, we also fixed the harness since you need to remove the header to get at it anyways.

Total cost: around $150, and about 3 hours of time.

Most people around here (especially northern Wisconsin) dont care either. You still see the stuff every winter regardless of the law ๐Ÿ˜„

Oh, and all our wonderful snow got stained brown from the tanic acid in the fallen leaves. But before that happened, it rained last night. So now the entire city is covered in 4 inches of semi frozen slush. I just spent the last two hours outside shoveling.

      o.O shown up!
Yeah the video was cool but in practice it doesnt seem to interesting. I think what would make it much more useful would be the ability to do this within a web browser using meta data stored within the image like the video hinted at.

    • Accurate Cavalier model needed, anyone have an idea...?

Im looking for a rather accurate model of a Chevy Cavalier. Specifically a 98 or a 96, both if possible.
More precisely I need a very accurate model of the trunk space at a 1:1 scale, or if thats not available something that has the scale listed so I can convert measurements.

The reason being that I have a Cavalier in the driveway that I would like to turn into a personal project for the stereo system, and it would help me out A LOT if i could use SU to mock up the enclosures that I have in mind. I could go out and take measurements and draw it all up, but to be honest I'm not good enough with SU to be able to do the curves of the trunk space.

Maybe a CAD file of the Cavalier's body would work? Anyways, I will keep looking on my own, but you guys might have better ideas of where to find this stuff. And no its not something I need, just something I would like to do in my spare time while saving my money for this.

Its sort of 1 part entertainment, 1 part mock up, and 1 part design right now. Ive never actually done a project with any sort of plans, and would like to see what I can do with a better idea of what I want. Everything I've done in wood was made up as I went along only writing down dimensions that I would need later to square things up.

Problem is everything I find they want me to buy for commercial uses, and this isnt really something I intend on selling or even presenting to others for ideas you know?
