. I think it might be the first time a Sketchup model has been used in a first person shooter, im pretty sure its all done with 3DS and Maya, but we managed it (

Nah ive seen a few people do it before and ive done it for a Mod of the space shooter game freelancer for the PC (well only the modeling) http://www.moddb.com/mods/freelancerblack-dawn/images/wip-reach-gamma-station#imagebox. Im curious tho how you got your models into the source engine, what file extension did you use etc?
anyway looking good so far, any pics of the in-game shots so far?

why wouldnt you want to download anything? These tools are free and do amazing things such as subdivision which you cannot do with the default tools?

    • RE: VRay Render......a simple glass gone wrong!

im not sure im using podium and softening edges always solves the problem ive got no experience in vray, however when i export my models into blender or ligtwave to render this segmentation happens to me too very annoying. If you find an answer will you please PM me as it could probably help me too, thanks.

    • RE: Transformers

no i made them all up, however im starting to wish I did lol even fathoming how that excavator is going to transform is a headache lol although I think after a week ive got it sorted in my head.
However ive found a good trick in the transforming mechanism, that is to download a robot from the 3d warehouse which sort of fits the body profile I imagine my transformer will have. I then sort out all the joints to make it fold together and then slowly work my way around replacing the placeholder model with my own, that way when ive finished modeling it will still all fold away perfectly, something that would be incredibly difficult when my arms are all tubes and pipes compared with the models on the warehouse which are usually solid objects and much lower in poly count and model size (much easier to manipulate).
As you can see form my blackhawk model, the body of the transformer has significantly changed since my first post as I have phased out the warehouse model for my own objects, most noticeably the piston/articulator type joints with tubes etc around the shoulders, torso and upper arms, this takes a while but once its finished should show some good detailed results. One of the biggest complaints people have had from the two new transformer films is that the models are too 'busy' and nobody knows what the f**** is going on lol, is that a ford mustang or a M1 tank? a good guy or a bad guy? Ive tried to simplify these machines so they still retain a strong image of there former vehicles making it easier to realate to them. Hence the Autobots are civilian vehicles (good guys) and the Deceptacons are usually military vehicles (bad guys obv lol). Big thanks to ALM model works for using their Blackhawk model and modifying it and 'whoever was the original author of the veyron is(as there are so many of the same car on the warehouse)((although im pretty sure as are a few other people its an import))', and for katese whose mech models ive used as placeholders, the excavator doesnt have a placeholder equivalent on the warehouse so it looks like ill probably have to make a rough copy for the transforming process and then model a fully detailed robot just hope my computer can get its head down and deal with the high poly count this time 😞

And thanks Coen I havent been around here long but ive seen your a real pro so its nice to have feedback from the masters sometimes lol, however im more here for negative feedback to see how I can improve on certain areas, so thats always helpful to.

lol dont worry I didnt take any offence you might of assumed tho with my blunt reply. I was planning to do the effect but after I did the battle damage i lost the pen for my tablet so had to do a crappy effect with the mouse, i found it now but just havent been bothered to go back and redo it. Anyway here are some moe updates on the hawk, started to get rid of the placeholders and model the mechanical aspects of the upper torso still needs a head and feet and my own mechanical legs and arms lol but at least it actually folds away now too as you can see in these shots>

I know im knitpicking and im very impressed you have made all this in SU compared with all the warehouse wannabees who obv just import them, but when you look close up lots of the edges are a bit rough isnt there any way to smooth them out? Anyway keep up the good work, is it just the wheels to go and then its finished now?

    • RE: Bamboo Pen Tablet

I would recommend the intuos for photoshop. Its fully programmable and has 10 buttons you can assign as well as two touch sensitive strips which you can use for zoom, changing brush sizes etc. The pad itself also has over 1000 pressure levels and ive been using it in sketchup for over two years now and its perfect when you get used to it.

    • RE: Transformers

no when it transforms the sort of electric shimmer effect rolls over the windows a sort of shield effect, you cant see it in the 2D pics so far but in the animation and final renders you will be able to see it
Here are the WIP's of the excavator transformer too still lots to do on this but in transformed mode it should be epic lol

yeah i started using that idea from full metal panic as a placeholer while I worked on the animation but ive modeled it myself from scratch now, ill post a clay render when I get home next week. The image I posted on this thread was an old one ive got a transformers thread here on the gallery you can see the finished veyron model on there as well as the models im working in as well. Sorry for hijacking your thread Wacov lol.
Couldnt help notice your renders have quite a bit of noise is that a filter or just because its low res?

      Transformers - (8)Robots in disguise(8)

      Transformer robots.
Started this project when the first movie came out and then carried it on from aorund one month ago , I downloaded the veyron & blackhawk models form the warehouse as well as a mecha model as a body placeholder to figure out how everything folded together. Then set about remodeling them completely from the top down to allow them to fold out and in(lots of trial and error lol). Well this has been in the works for a long time but just finished this week. The veyron is fully animated in transform mode using lightwave so ill try and post a video on here soon so keep looking. I lifted the sound files straight form the DVD and mixed them in with it as well.
