First, I'd check out the agvis forums for help with VRay. It's full of tips and tricks from the pros. Second, I'd pop over to sketchupartists.org where you'll find tuts on creating this and many more effects, but not necessarily with Vray.

I've limited experience with Vray, I'm devoting my time to Twilight, but I'd imagine this imagine this image had lots of post production in an image editor.

Finally I'd post some pics here of your result/issues etc for some feedback from the gurus.

Thank you very much for your advice. I will look into this.
Will report back and share when I find out how this is done.

hum.. I have just installed this plugin.
It does the cut but how do I render my section with V-ray after?

Vray still seem to catch whats 'un-cut' and rendered my entire model.
      Thanks in advance.

This tool only adds a filled in section-cut group - to do it so it's cut for Vray etc you need to copy the skp and then physically cut the model in two [using Zorro] and throw away the unwanted half - there's a detailed thread about this already - http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=184604#p184604

      Thank you very much!

      Lazychild,

I think what really adds to Jason's work is his extreme attention to detail. Things that are typically overlooked by many are always covered by Jason. Take for instance the text on the menu board. This could have very easily be done with text, although it would have very easily made the board very busy and drawn your eye to it rather than just see the board as an element in the overall design. The real trick here is that the use of simple rectangles for what would be text on the board satisfies ones eye that its "text" and not just rectangles. If you look at some of Jason's other works he does this trick of the eye stuff really well. I think things like this are so easily overlooked when in reality is it masterfully done by Jason. I think many people new to Sketchup (and some that have been around for a while, myself included) could learn alot by taking the time to really study Jason's work. While many ask for Jason to tell his process (which he has done many times before), it is important to create your own style. It is interesting to see how many times people have tried to mimic this style with varied success. There is more going on here that a simple grey image.

      Great work Jason!
      Scott

I definitely agree with you. The amount of details is just amazing.
Thank you very much for your time. Much appreciated.

you must've only looked at one post then! haha... thanks appreciate it.

nothing special here though.. just a standard style with some extension... i guess the trick is the texturing.. adjust the RGB levels of the textures to gray them out... good luck.

Any way you can provide some guidelines or instructions on how to achieve this?
I tried a few style but cant get anywhere near that effect. Especially the shadows etc.

I am impressed everytime i look at it. Really like it!

    • [HELP REQUEST] How to achieve such style?

      Hello all,

I am new to Sketchup and Vray.
I came across this image online and really like the style of this rendering.
I am wondering if anyone can provide some advise how that is done.
If possible, step-by-step or tutorial will be nice!
(ie; is this even a Vray-render? or is it some sketchup style + photoshop?) ๐Ÿ˜ณ
