      Hello Nick,

Looks great man! I just heard about the PV thing just yesterday and tried it today. It worked great except I had some areas of the PV that were shaded darker in areas. Did you get any dark areas? If so, how did you avoid them? Also do you have any experience in doing this via Kerkythea?

      regards,

    • RE: First Quicktime VR's

I'm getting some strange shadows in my output after making the VR scene.
Why is this occuring? I used the SU plugin to export the images and use gocubic to splice the images together.

ps. the file is 500k so i can't post it here.

      Thanks Guy's.

This was just a sketch of an similar image I saw on the internet to test light settings in k. Can't take credit for the design. I modeled in su and rendered in K.

    • RE: My first Sketchup model and my first Artlantis render.

I was refering to using white or grey clay vs brown. Although, this is personal preference there does seam to be some logic to white or grey being more harmonious with the blue sky.

      Nice work Ace,

My only crit would be to make the clay buildings white vs brown. My opinion, you will get a better look and contrast to the cool blue.

      Keep up the good work,

    • RE: Reducing Sketchup file size.

I read thru this thread pretty quickly. How big is too big when it comes to image size in SU? I know image size definitely has an impact on speed. What resolution should we try and keep as min in general terms.

I thougt it to be a good challenge to do this scene which only uses K's sunlight. 😎

Thanks for the compliments! Yes, K is a very nice rendering program and its free!
I have no idea why more are not using it. The second image, I agree is the better of the two. However turning the exposure up to 1.5 washed out the sky which I would say is better in the first image. How can I reconcile this?

@Allanx you are correct, I could have made a smoother curve on for the window frame. I didn't notice until I finished the render. Smoothing the curve would definitely improve the quality of the render.

@Fredrick, Yes it's one of Fletch's global skies inserted in K.

      Thanks again!

Very nice Paul! What method do you use to get your white lines in the pavement? Do you use the stamp tool?

      solo,

Where did you get those textures? They are very nice. We do a lot of aged looking structures as in theme park buildings and rides. This type of texturing would be ideal for the type of work we do.

    • RE: Re: orchestra pit in a church

      Hello Mike,

      1. Yes, the floor is sloped
      2. Yes, we are using theater type seating.
or something called "pew optima" which are very expensive.
we like the function but the price is high;(
        What seats would you recommend?
      3. choir room and support spaces on the other side of walls.
a retractable choir stand for aprox 100 persons is on stage.
      4. Its a 2 story space. seats rise up to balcony seating on the second level.
        I would say about 22'.
      5. The stage sound is a big issue with the choir director and the band.
As I understand it the house sound is not a problem.

This is a copy of the plan. It seats about 2500 people.
I need to check how many people are going in the pit.

By the way I did work on one of these years ago but it was for a full fledge theater seating about 600 persons. It was very challenging to detail. I recall the walls had padded panels, removable guard rails, and angle irons for supporting panels that covered the pit when not in use. lot's of operational issues to deal with as well. Although, they may do some theatrics the majority of use will be for concerts and choir.

      John,

Sorry, I seem to have struck a chord with you;) Do you have any expertise in the area? I looking for an honest answer to justify building an orchestra pit in the church setting. Just facts to back it up. Do you have any experience in this area? I guess one could make an argument for not using it as well. I'm looking for pros and cons.

      Thanks

    • Re: orchestra pit in a church

I have a client that is interested in doing an orchestra pit.
Anyone have any experience in doing one. The Music director seems to think they can not do with out one if they are going to empasize a high quality acoustic atmosphere. Can't today's technology offset the sound problems he insist will occur if the pit is not in the project. I just think a pit would be more trouble than it's worth...
i.e. pit filler panel design and storage, removable rails etc...not to mention getting equipment in and out of the pit.
If anyone has had any experience in this area you input is greatly appreciated.

      thanks,

      p.s.
I hate that google moved the boards around. There are just too many places to go for info, too scattered. Also, I think even on this board there seem to be too many "branches on the tree". I think there are others who have given up posting and looking as I have. It just hasn't been the same;(
I guess I should make this one of my favorites for now?

    • "chaotic order"

Anyone have any experience creating these types of geometry.
It's an intresting subject chaotic order seemingly random patterns that are not random at all. Based on some mathematical model.

I'm sure there is some ruby application to creating something like this.

      Tom,
I see the two new buildings that show up in your 2nd image. How did you get the proper perspective? I guess I am still confused. If these were not done in Su how were they done? Photoshop?
