    • RE: Sketchup On Surface Pro?

      Long time no post,

Anyone with experience running Su on the more recent Surface Pro 4 or a Surface Book?
I am looking at getting one of the two (for photo editing tasks on the go) but it will be a bonus if it could handle SU decently, for the occasional editing. My doles are more medium size, not very complex.

Both machines come with 6th Gen i7 processors , 2GB nVidia GC and 16 GB RAM.

Any advice or experience with would be greatly appreciated,

I can only think SU just got better with the stroke of a pen...nice.

Having been the recipient of your generosity through your plug-gins, i selfishly hope you keep in touch with the forums.

      Good Luck,

Hello Allan! I really love your NPR style. I want to learn and explore the same. Any thread where you have shared your workflow, tips or tutorial?
      Thanks.

      madhav,

Allan has an e-book available from this site. It is very complete in describing his workflow.

      Allan,

Lovely NPR illustration. Besides the great technique, the selection of viewpoint contributes a lot to the overall composition. Nicely done!

These images have to be one of the most impressive NPR examples I've seen on these forums. Well done!
Is the post-processing done in Photoshop?

    • RE: Base camp 2012

      I had a great time.

I am mostly grateful for the folks at Google that made us feel welcome. For the many people that I met (from this forum and all over) and the oportunity to learn from them, not only about our favorite tool, but also about what they do and other non SU topics.

I agree with the opinions already expressed about the un-conference format. My experience was similar to others in that most of the topics were of interest to me, so it was just so hard to decide which session to attend, so more time to spread the topics over 2 days would be better.

Two things completely blew me away: 1. Meeting Steve Oles and seeing him use SU, how great is that! 2.Learning how new and exciting 3rd party applications are being developed for SU (Augmented Reality, 3D Printing, Energy Analysis, 3D Rendering, etc) was refreshing because it means SU will be more than a GE modeler for years to come.

      Cheers,

Who want to got to Basecamp and are able to go to Basecamp and intend to go to Basecamp if they are invited?

I want to go, I am able to go (live in California)and intend to go if nominated by someone here. I doubt a direct invitation will be forthcoming since I am not a regular contributor to the forum.

Seriously, I would love to go. I was lucky enough to get an invitation to the last one at Google Headquarters here in CA and had a great time. It sure contributed to expanding my professional use of SU.

    • RE: 3DBC Tuesday Evening Meetup

Although I missed the Tuesday meeting, I have had a good time talking to some of you forum regulars.
As for 3d Basecamp, no breaking news yet about SU7.There is a very positive energy flow about the event, mainly about getting together and talk about SU, almost to the point that some of the presentations seem to have taken a backstage.
The SU team has been very accomodating and gracious hosts. The Googleplex is huge and seems like a good place to work, filled with perks (food, massage chairs, food, toilets that whash and dry you, more food, snacks)

      Hi all,

I am staying at the Wild Palms, which should be close enough to the Avante. I arrive wednesday morning since I am flying in from San Diego. I will be glad to meet Wed-Friday?

Looking forward to meeting you all.

    • RE: AIA 2008 Boston anyone?

Same here. Great Convention, made more so by the city and all there is to see.

I had a great time touring Kahn Buildings at Yale, the Gerhy fiasco at MIT, some Harvard Museums and historic Boston. I also had a non-architectural tour of the ICA Building. I am still not sure what to think of it, great exterior public places and magnificent views from inside (specially the media room) but the galleries were so small and bland?.

A personal highlight was visiting the JFK Library and archives, more for the history than the building, athough I liked the Atrium space a lot. And of course, meeting Craig D., Lewis and Susan.

      Now back to work...

    • RE: AIA 2008 Boston anyone?

Thanks a lot for the info,I will give those places a try.

Alan, I was a subscriber to FF when it came out, so I will definetely check out the booth out. Susan, you may not remember me, I met you at the LA Convention some years ago at the Entourage Arts booth. I'll stop by again.
      Lewis,

I hear you. As a sole practicioner, its only becoming harder to let my passion for Architecture drive me to keep the business growing.
As an aside, when the Convention came to San Diego, I was so busy I missed it completely, even thou it was held 5 minutes from ny office.

I thought a lot about wheter to go to Boston or not, then I decided to do it. Pay the fee and booked the flight. Two days later, through this forum I hear about Base Camp 2008, submitted an application and yes you guess it, was invited. Now my continuing education budget has exploded. No way I am not going.

      Thanks again,

    • AIA 2008 Boston anyone?

      Hi all,

I will be going this May to Boston for the AIA convention and was wondering if anyone from this community will be there?
I am having a hard time finding lodging at reasonable prices(under $150/night) and would like to hear from locals as to what alternatives towns are nearby with good Public Transportation links.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

For the better workflow I made a XnView toolbarbutton. Just unpack the zip into plugins folder. This means an external image and components viewer (starts directly in Sketchup)

      Burkhard

Thanks Burkhard for the advice about XnView. I downloaded the application but failed in my attempt to make it work from inside SU, as suggested. Care to elaborate on the process? I simply unziped the file inside the SU Pluggins folders, but nothing was available from Su after restart. Any suggestions?

      Thanks in advance,
