    • The "Computer Support Cold Call Scam" - had some fun!

for those that don't know, the scam is thus. you get a call from "the computer support dept" or sumsuch. they claim your computer is infected and sending out personal information.. they then talk you into installing a program to clean your system (malware/spyware) and take your CC information to pay for it... you can then guess the rest.

I got one of these fake support calls today. knowing it was a scam I decided to have some fun...

      can you tell me what?

it's just sending out important information!

      oh my god no

yes, your computer is sending out important information

oh my god. have you got the pictures of me , the goat and the lubrication?

      ...he hung up.

it's not that I don't want to help you track stats on this. it's I can't get to read it otherwise... (I've never worked out why my firefox hates PDF's. I've tried 2/3/4/5/6/Aurora, Adobe/Foxit/etc... FF will start loading it and just carry on forever loading.... I have to download the PDF and then read it in FF or Foxit..)

      yes.. it does..
in the end, I started the index page, copied the URL that FF crashed on before it crashed and used that to download the PDF.

Not really interested in defining "teabagging". What I am interested in is why people who say WHOA! on the mounting debt have to be demonized.

actually I don't care about your country or it's debt or "demonizing" said country/debt. tho you just demonized this act.. I do care about this "teabagging". what is it? is it fun? can I find someone to try it with? etc.

      Definition for teabagging:

To tea bag is a slang term for the act of a man placing his scrotum in the mouth of a sexual partner. The practice resembles dipping a tea bag into a cup of tea when it is done in a repeated in-and-out motion. As a form of non-penetrative sex, it can be done for its own enjoyment or as foreplay.

ok where does it say it has to be a man? (your "Curious why a liberal would find it OK to call people by a derogatory gay sexual act. No need to answer.")

by your definition, it's "partner" - can be man or woman...and why is it "derogatory"?

    • RE: How to import Blender models to Sketchup?

you can export from Blender as DAE (Collada) or as OBJ.
SU will open DAE (free or Pro) or you can use one of the 2 Free OBJ Importers

Thanks. I have actually been looking for something like that for long. Currently no budget for the Pro version but even the free looks promising!

be careful with it. I tried it out, and after awhile it kept causing faults in explorer.exe... I don't know if they ever fixed that.

use TIG's OBJ exporter and then Import into DS as OBJ, or if DS can import Collada, try that, but Daz have had issues with Google's interpretation of the Collada format.

here's the announcement on Lightworks -

      @unknownuser said:

"Back in April 2010, we announced our plans to take Lightworks open source. We always said the first step would be to make the application freely available so that a large community of users could start becoming familiar with it. We are very pleased to have reached this first milestone. Now you can freely download the most intuitive and advanced editor available. This is not a trial download. From here forward, you will always be able to download and use the latest version of Lightworks for free.

Some time in the middle of 2011, we hope to reach our next milestone - releasing the source code to any developer who wants to build upon what we started. We wish we were ready to do that now. However, before we can release any source, we have several hundred thousand lines of code to review to make sure it's all cleared for opening up. We are making progress but we are not there yet.

In the meantime, we invite you to get familiar with Lightworks, an Academy and Emmy award winning professional-grade editor with over 20 years of history in the film and broadcast industry. Having cut hundreds of films such as Pulp Fiction, The Departed, Centurion and Shutter Island, it includes a full feature set of editorial tools -- from advanced trimming and media management, to stereoscopic support and realtime effects including multiple secondary colour correctors. Lightworks has an advanced effects pipeline, utilizing the power of your GPU. And with support for up to 2K workflows with realtime effects, it is the most advanced editing application available. "

      Haha...
It only imports FBX models, unless you have a plugin (it doesnt say here which plugins are available), its only available for Windows pc's, and works best if you have a high-end ATI card...that's basically it! πŸ˜‰

look in the support section. there's a Sketchup exporter. (and Maya, Max... all listed there)

that's not so good is it..

on this machine, I use Sketchup, Wings, trueSpace (4 and 7), posers 7 & Pro, Blender, Hexagon, Vue.. and they all run fast.

this on the other hand is sluggish and unresponsive. no way to adjust the graphics settings either. I'll pass for now..
