john, how did you work this out?

Wish I could claim some prescient skills, but I just emailed the local distributor to let them know that I had not received the upgrade info and in their reply they happend to mention the email address that they sent the info to. Absolutely crazy thing for Google to do, though!

Well, I have my licence sorted.

Turns out that the details had been sent to my gmail account (which I only opened to trial Google Wave and never actually use) and not to the email that I used to place the order.

No - it's not just you. I parted with my cash on-line a week ago and I'm still waiting for my code. Like you, I obtained my Sketchup Pro licence from a local distributor.

The Sandpit video - I defy you not to be enthralled!

35000 individual stills, processed and assembled into a remarkable presentation of a day in New York.

so this devise makes you use twice the water? the stuff you drink plus the stuff that emties from the fishtank.

Well, I agree that would be senseless, but from what I can tell, the fish tank water is not used - it is drawn down into the lower tank while you are running the tap (presumably some device driven by the water flowing to the tap) and flows (syphons?) back when the tap is closed.

Interesting engineering, but can't help thinking that there are plenty of kids out there who would just love to run the tap and drain the bowl completely for fun!

I like the idea, I think this could be a great solution for our future power requirements.

I'm just concerned about driving on glass on a rainy/snowy/icy day however. 😕

Hey Pete, recycled glass is already used as aggregate in some road toppings anyway!

      @dave r said:

I've never thought that I actually owned any of the software I bought. I always considered that I had only paid for a license to use it and so it wasn't something I could sell. On the other hand, although I know I don't own any rights to the contents of books I buy, I wouldn't have had any reservations about selling a book I bought. Hmmm....

Books did at one time include a phrase similar to "this book shall not by way of trade or otherwise be resold." They no longer do, I suspect because the clause could not be legally enforced. I suspect the same is probably true for software licences.

How do you get the upgrade? Been on the website but still v.7.

Good question - I see the v8 downloads, but no information of the v8 upgrade is free for existing users of Pro or not.

Does Paintshop have an "offset" feature built into it? I just do the standard Photoshop trick of offsetting an image in the x and y directions, so that the seams then are showing in the middle of the image. Then I carefully go through and clean up the seam with clone stamp tool or whatever tool I need. Can you do it like that? I could explain it better if that makes no sense.

      Chris

I use the Simple Filters Half-Wrap plug in. This lets you wrap the image left-right, top-bottom, or both directions by 50%. You can then use editing tools (Clone for example) to deal with the adjoining edges. Similar to the offset command in Photoshop, but only works at 50% offset.

    • RE: Free software downloads

I spoke with the developers of a software package for whom I am a beta tester about this issue.

When searching on Google for information about the application I was given lots of links to illegal download sites. I pointed this out to the developers and their pragmatic answer was that they saw little point in wasting effort going after these guys or developing new security code for them to crack as in their view most of the people using cracked versions would probably never be prepared to pay for the application anyway.

The logic seems to be that they are not actually losing anything to the crackers and having more people out there using the application would not be such a bad thing!

Adobe seem to have a technically better solution for dealing with cracked software, making their software phone home every so often. Crackers disable this feature of course, but another check monitors the time since the last successful call home and if there were no successful calls after a certain period the app is disabled or switches into demo mode with the user allowed to purchase a genuine licence. Probably overkill for your app, though.

      Apple have released a fix.

They are charging £25 for a "rubber bumper" that solves the bridging problem.

      Bless.

(I'm sure a discrete strip of black insulation tape over the offending area would be sufficient.)

    • RE: Cinema

I find that non-architects/designers have problems with anything other than photo-realistic people in a photo-realistic render. They tend to focus on the people and not the building with comments such as "why are there ghosts in the building?"

I personally like the white or grey silhouette people (solid or transparent) but stopped using them because of this.
