Yes, there is the same issue between Vray and Thea. I think they found a way to fix it.
      You should contact Tomasz.

I think that it would be great step forward if Trimble would integrate VR interface in new Sketchup 2016, which would be used for modeling!

EW doesn't have subscriptions yet. So it's a permanent license.

      When will this become available...??
I thought it would be ready for the 3D Base Camp in London and then for us mortals who couldn't attend shortly after...

You probably misread, every Basecamp attendee will get a 75% off when it goes on sale. This doesn't mean that it went on sale during the Basecamp. Sorry about the confusion.

I can't give you a specific date because I don't know myself... But really, it's a matter of weeks now.

starting to think this is vaporware...

I can assure you this is not a vaporware. Please consider the fact that developing softwares take a lot of time, and there's a whole lot you can't see.

I'm trying to figure out how this differs from Visualizer...

Visualizer is a true renderer (although very limited features). This is "just" Ambient Occlusion.

It could actually be very interesting if it was happening in the viewport. For client presentation/interaction, etc
Sometimes you just want to add some depth to the model without a realistic render.

Yes, unfortunately the SketchUp api doesn't allow to render directly into the standard viewport

Within a custom Tool, you can draw in the viewport. http://www.sketchup.com/intl/en/developer/docs/ourdoc/view#draw2d

Tomasz from Thea Render even found a way to inject the render in the assembly to be able to see the render in the viewport while using any tool. But that's another master level ๐Ÿ˜„

The result is displayed in a seperate window, not the Sketchup viewport, right?
