I don't get it. The model is awful. What are we going to prove here?

RE: Visualisation SU+Maxwell+Pshop
Very nice Kwisty. All nice compositions and POV's. You really did a great job with the grass and trees. The two cars parked in the grass look a little odd, but I really like them all.

RE: SU-Artantis interiors
Nice. The little bit of bloom and the grain really helps the Artlantis output which sometimes is a little "plastic-like".

RE: 5 min. Maxwell
No doubt that Maxwell is a lot faster than it used to be. That glass would have been a nasty mess a year ago with just 5 minutes of render time.
Put a little texture on you beige material and repost a larger image. Maybe mess with the water a little. Maxwell is actually kind of fun to use again. Are you using just the plugin or are you opening in Studio and working from there instead?

RE: New painting
Pretty cool, but I have to wonder why you need SketchUp. You're obviously a very capable artist. I guess SketchUp would be useful for determing the best POV. Anyway, very nice work.

Hey Stu,
Nice image!Maybe a little tonemapping in post to bring out the light and details some more?
If you don't like it, I wil remove it at onceKeep up the good stuff...
Now you did it! 8O Stu likes em dark kwisty. I tried that once and found out the hard way!

RE: House renovation
I have been using Maxwell for a year or so and have found it to be an irritating little program. I think that has changed with 1.5. The cores per license thing was a real problem. Now, with almost unlimited use of available processors, I think things will start moving forward. It's a lot faster and the Maxwell Studio interface is much improved.
I will say I have problems with flipped polys that can't be fixed and that AGS glass does not work on my mac. Are you using mac or windows?

RE: House renovation
Nice Mateo. Was this done with the newest veriosn released this week? Do you use the plugin or do you work in Studio?

RE: And so, this boabab...
I can't believe it. I was trying to make baobabs in Onyx the other night. They are the coolest trees ever. Spooky render.
EDIT:
Here's a shot. Tom, I can post an .obj file in the components forum if want this goofy thing for futrure baobab imagery. -
RE: B[P]ig Trouble
Nice. Makes me want to listen to Pink Floyd.

RE: VRay Tests
Stuart,
Tells us some more about these. What's the process and the setup time? They are nice renders. The only problem you are having is the same problem I have with my other render softwares–low poly count especially around the curved edges. Also, when exporting the triangulation is a killer in regards to file size and geometry structure. Almost impossible in other applications without a LOT of handwork. The lighting looks good.

RE: Just sharing new work on new forum
That looks great. If image used for the outside was brighter it would be perfect. Looks as if it has tinted windows.
Very nice work.

RE: Computer Speeds Need rough ideas for diferent mach. renderti
The render times for an identical SketchUp/modo model were:
My old 1.33GHz, G4 17", 1GB- 2hrs 20 minutes
My G5 dual 2.5GHz, 4GB- 35 minutes
New Intel MacBook Pro, 3GB -11 minutes
New 8-Core MacPro, 4GB-3 minutesThis will give you a decent ratio.
Modo is going to release a new version 301 soon. rendering to other machines is supported. I think up to 300 or something crazy like that. If you watch the video you can get the whole story.

Maxwell's new release in the next few release is said to support as many cores as your machine has built in instead of a 2-cores per license scheme that it currently uses. That is good news for Maxwell users.

Pretty cool. Very creative. I use extra tiles to make area rugs for my house.
Here's another use by one of my favorite practices- Samuel Mockbee's Rural Studio. Rural Studio used carpet tiles to build a house.
I love the Rural Studio work. Mockbee was the man. Cool stuff. I'm going to try a similar project in my backyard. It will be a one or two person getaway with one bookshelf and a chair– a cocoon-like get away from the kids.
I just use heavy duty carpet tape and then lay them on a a felt of foam backer. Stays together pretty well and if one of the tiles gets stained or frayed at the edges, then you take it out and pop another in. I just made one for my son's room. I've got a picture somewhere. Looks pretty good.
Here's some more recycled carpet and fabric furniture. It's a chair made by a group called Droog. I just sat in a couple last week at a showroom at NeoCon in Chicago. Pretty hard!

My guess is the poor girl has no hands at all and someone else is holding up the phone. Can't believe that could be actually her hand, even the skin tone is nothing like her face.
[/quote]Clicking on the picture takes you to a blog that has another pic with her hand. I think it belongs to her. Yikes!
Cool phone.

Archi - If you're able to (add this comes down to cost) go for 3dsMax.
There's a lot of nonsense talked about it being hard to learn. It honestly isn't. Every new designer I've employed has been up-and-running on Max within a couple of days. The results you get will ultimatley be better than from a cheap/free renderer, plus you're getting the heavy weight modelling and animation capabilities with 3dsmax. Having 3dsmax skills will do wonders for your employment opportunities too. Nothing wrong with the cheaper packages, but you really DO get what you pay for. I've tried most of the cheap renderers (Kerky, Maxwell, artlantis). Was able to get some decent reuslts - but took a whole lot of messing around to achieve something which 3dsMax could have done in 5 minutes.hope that helps.
A.
I would agree with the employment opportunities, but I seriously doubt the 5 minutes.

RE: My Scooby
About 5 months ago some punk kid in an Impreza was clocked going 142 in a 55 mph about a mile from my house. Idiot. These Fast and Furious wannabees are dangerous.
Not that you're a wannabe Craig. Nice car model.

RE: A 'non destructive' beveling ruby.
Lewis,
Can we see a sample of one of these obsessively scrubbed renders? You've piqued my interest here. Was the dirt occlusion mapped rendered separately or was this some sort of generic dirt filter?
