Save it as a jpg if it is not in jpg format. I use Photoshop to save it to a .jpg after I capture the image. Then import it as a texture to any surface within Sketchup File/Imort image and make sure you select texture (check the small box to the right). Then you can eydrop it in Sketchup to transfer it to any surface.

If you are a designer, it is. They are the two largest carpet providers in the US. Essentially, you are advertising for them for free in their models!

In Need of Custom Slicing PlugIn For 3D Printing
I am an architect who is in need of an plugin to slice complex models. I have two Zcorp 450 powder printers and would like to be able to slice an exploded model quickly and create numbs and recieving holes to reconnect the model. The reason for this is my build tray is 9"x9"x12" and I need to print models 4 times the size of the build tray. I could do it manually, but it is labor intensive.
See the attached file for what I am looking for.
If anyone is interested in writing the exptension, I would be willing to print a couple of models, and post process them in exchange.
Thanks,
Brian

Great Carpet Resource
Here are two design engines for Carpet that output tiled images that are flawless when inserting them into SU

Essentially you can pick any pattern and color it any way. Save the image, convert it to a .jpg imoport it as a texture and you are good to go.
Enjoy.

RE: Is there an easy way to slice a model for 3D printing?
Great idea to break it by rooms. I didn't think of that. FYI, as 3D printing is getting larger, it would be great to have a plug-in that allows you to bind the model as a complete unit, then chop it up however you want. Just a thought. Thanks for your help.

Here is an attachment of what I was thinking. You would basically have a floor with clear panes you would never go through, that way you could pull apart the model.

RE: Is there an easy way to slice a model for 3D printing?
I believe CADSpan does not work in .3ds which is what I need to export in. What I am trying to accomplish is to take a finished Sketchup model and slice it into 2,3 or 4 parts for printing. I have a Zcorp 450 printer and they have their own proprietary software, Zedit Pro, however it butchers the Sketchup model and does not work in .3ds I work in 3ds, because it preserves the Sketchup color. I tried slicer but got the error. I grouped all my components, however when I sliced see the error message that came up. I may be missing something here. I basically want to take what you see in the .jpg and break it into 4 equal parts.
My Zprinter build tray is 10"x10"x8" and breaking it into 4 parts will allow me to create a larger model. I need to print a 18"x18" model roughly, and in order to do this I need to break the model into pieces. The only work around I can think of is to literally plan on the final build size and create stopping planes/boundaries so I do not say run a wall "through" its limit, to allow me 3 or 4 pieces. It could get messy this way.
I did build the roof element as a separate part in case you are wondering when you see the pictures.
I appreciate your help. Brian

Is there an easy way to slice a model for 3D printing?
Anybody know of an easy way to take a complex model, with multiple components, and slice it into the desired number of pieces for printing in 3D? I am aware of the slicer ruby plugin, but it does not accomplish what I need. The ideal would be to say slice a complex model into 2 parts (or more of my choosing of quantity and on which coordinate) and then slice and separate the model, and close the slices to reform a new solid. Thanks, Brian

Thanks, I appreciate your help, I got it figured out. Brian

Coloring a Component
I have a multiple house walls all tied together as a component, a vary complex model with multiple layers. I want to color different faces of the walls different colors, but since they are all one component, when I can only color them as one color I select. Without exploding the component is the a way to color the various faces different colors?
FYI I cannot explode the walls, as it is a .3ds file for export as a print file to a Zcorp printer, and it does not layer out right in the build.
Thanks, Brian

Altering Printed Lineweight
When you are looking at a model, the lineweight is heavy, as well as when it is printed. However when you spin the model, or grab and move the model, it changes to a much lighter lineweight, I assume to preserve RAM usage, which is how I wish it would print. Is there a way to change the lineweight/thickness?
